So I replaced my upper balljoints well over a year ago, and saw them losing grease. So I put a zip-tie at the lowest part of the boot that I could, since there is nothing putting pressure on it to hold the grease in.
Well, this didn't work.
I'm replaced my dri side halfshaft, and figure I should try and get this fixed too while I have it apart.

So how are you supposed to get the boot to hold grease, with nothing on the bottom on the boot to put pressure on it?
Oh, and I used the Moog replacement arms and balljoints.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same issue right now.

when you put new grease into the ball joint the old grease should come out from the bottom of the boot. It doesnt have to hold pressure in there for the ball joints to have enough grease to lubricate, you simply fill the ball joint boot up as much as you can and wipe the old stuff away...repeat 3-4 times a year.

Thats just my opinion, works for me!
I have never seen greaseable upper BJ's for a Gen II truck, but I am not saying they dont exist, just want to see pictures :)

If your boots are worn to the point of just letting grease drop right out of them, consider replacing the boot or use some black silicoln to try and make up the gap

Ditto, it's likely a design of the Ford parts that makes other ball joints not hold grease well. I agree about the RTV, I've used Ultra Black to seal a CV boot seal, and it worked.

K, well that's a good to know then.

under normal driving conditions, the grease squeezes out of the bottom of the boot.

the boot does not make a tight fit on the shaft, so even after filling it and cleaning the old stuff, after driving it a few times, there's grease all over the place again.

I installed one lower ball joint tonight. The removal was a pain, the lower arm bends quite a bit, it flexes instead of the ball joint crushing out. That and the tool doesn't line up in a straight line with the joint. But installing it was a breeze, it slid right in in a few seconds.

I had a brand new grease gun which wouldn't attach to the grease fitting. I had to swap my old gun's tip to inject grease. The lower Moog joints have great boots, they hold tight against the lower body of the joint. No grease came out and a nice bulge was left in the boot. I'll do the right one tomorrow.

I have no issues with the lower balljoints.

It's the uppers I have problems with :D
