Upper intake main vacuum hose

I need to find that vacuum hose assembly that is Y shaped - it attaches to a nipple on both sides of the upper intake plenum and held in place by by plastic clips. The end of the Y has an extended hose that goes down underneath the battery. If I knew what this was called, it would be a lot easier to find it! Anybody got a name for it so I can start searching the shops for it? Anybody got an extra for sale?

I'm not quite clear on what you mean, but my guess is that you don't need a special Ford part for this, that you just need to take the line to an auto parts store, or measure the nipples it attaches to, to get the inner diameter, then have them cut you the appropriate length of standard vac line hose. As for the Y shape, you'd put a vacuum T coupler on it, something like one of these, the correct size for the hose(s):

If yours already has a plastic T-coupler you may be able to reuse it but I'd get the lines off first to be sure they come off without breaking it, saving you a 2nd trip to the auto parts store although currently Autozone has free shipping with no minimum for website orders. However some at Autozone are ridiculously overpriced, the t-coupler should be closer to $3 than to $20. There are lots of sources closer to $3.

If you have trouble figuring out the diameter of hose you need, you can probably ask the parts counter person at the auto parts store to cut you a little free sample of hose, 2" long piece or whatever, to try for fit before buying a longer length.

Thanks for your reply. I thought about going your way but this whole assembly is made out of semi-rigid plastic - I assume because the routing of it puts it near motor heat. I'd like to just call up an online wrecker and grab the right part. I actually bought the same part from somebody here online (Boomin X maybe - is he still around?). I have a pic of one part of the Y conection that attaches underneath the plenum where the nipples are but cannot upload it. It DOES connect to a T - connector - but the Y part to the T - to one hose down to underneath the battery - all semi rigid plastic. It seems I am the only one who has this? LOL. I swear there has to be a name for it. Rockauto didn't help either. Thanks - DW

Motor heat is usually not a problem for rubber hose so long as it isn't resting against the exhaust manifold, can be routed away from anything that's hot metal, but you may be able to find bulk hard plastic tubing to use instead. It's just a little harder to work with, sometimes it may need to be heated in hot water (or hair dryer, heat gun, etc) to soften it up to stretch and slide onto a fragile plastic t-coupler.

No, that is the one part of the Y that comes off each side of the upper plenum. Both sides connect like that with the plastic clip. Those two are the y splits then go to a T connector - that then turns into one hose that goes down under the battery. That connection under the battery is a special fitting too. Only why to get connection good is to tape it up real good. But tape don't last long. The Y connections - 1 showing in the pic are directly under the upper intake plenum. The plenum itself has the nipples molded in

And that tape on the pic is just duct tape. The hoses should all be black

The IAC valve is electromechanical and has no hoses, just a wire/plug connector.

LOL. Your 98 should be very similar. My IAC valve has yet another rigid plastic tube that goes under the right side of the upper intake and into the Intake Tube

Look at what I linked, that is your IAC. I'm 100% sure mine has no vac or any other air tubing. I'm still wondering if you are thinking of the PCV valve.

If you can provide a better quality picture of where this is on your engine (or draw a colored line on the picture showing where it is routed) then I'll go look at what's on my '98 SOHC when I get a chance.

If you can see - sorry bad camera - you should see a hose connection to IAC valve in this Picture. It has a flexible rubber elbow on it (right into/or away from) to help it fit in place since it is all rigid plastic. We don't have the same motor https://imgur.com/a/L53cA

I know what you're talking about. I've got one of these hose assemblies if you're interested. Pulled it off a '99 SOHC. Kind of a p.i.t.a. to get everything out of the way to fish it out from behind the t-stat housing/short bypass hose. E-mail me sdbriese2@comcast.net
