Some where between the Mojave and Sonora Desert where it's hot.
Year, Model & Trim Level
'99 Limited & 2000 XLT
My name is Desert Ranger. I live in the hottest, deepest, driest desert in the USA on a 5 acre ranch. Out front are a 1988 F250 rock climber, a 1990 Bronco XLT setup for the desert and 2 stock ford explorers whic need to be unstock. :) An XLT for my wife and a Limited for myself. I drive 'em all in the most inhospitiable place I can think of, the desert. Sand, rock it makes no diff. The Bronco and F250 sit on Rancho suspensions.

I work as a backcountry and wilderness guide and do twice weekly motor coach tours into Joshua Tree National Park so I need vehicles that are not going to crap out on me whch has happened with Chev, Toys and Mopars.

On Sat I teach trail safety and survival as well as writing books on the subject.

I am looking for info on how to beef the suspension limit the bounce on my Limited which has an Air Ride control Suspension and maintain it's functionality.

Don't forget our FORD is always Found Off Road Driving

Welcome desertranger,

I'm not a suspension expert, but my wife and I are part time "desert explorers" and have spent a good amount of time in and around Joshua Tree and other desert areas. Having been stuck in the desert before and preferring to drive out rather than hike out :fire: (not to mention being at the mercy of my wife's complaints about our Sport's bouncy ride), I'm also interested in some of the same kinds of suspension mods you may need for your tour vehicles.

Best of luck in your quest

to lift it up a little you can change the preload of the front torsion bars ( only need a nutdriver ), to lift the back simply hang out the airride control lever and fix it in a higher position ( additional port need to be drilled ), so it will be lifted by the susp.control. This works up to r.a. 3" to 4".
( only on XP´s with rideheight-control ).
