Go to this site. If you run a search for headers you will mind multiple choices ceramic, or stainless, for the GT40 head.

I beleive the part # for the GT40 head is M9430C50

The part # for the GT40P heads is M9430p50

Good luck finding what you want!

Here's a little write-up that I did on my website. It includes pictures of the install and the SVO headers next to the stock ones:

I an little confuse now about these headers. I notice a another tread on here that someone is going to try to get a place to fab these. I know that most '96 V8 uses the GT-40 heads and 97-up uses the GT-40P heads. I went to a Fordmotorsports dealer and they just carry the SVO headers for the '96. There was nothing for the 97-up. So is there really an actual SVO or better that is not stock and will go on a 97-up V8 without any problems? I just want to get that straighten out.

65matt,

Thanks for the feedback, and the pics on your site! Huge help to see whats being discussed!

Question: With the SVO headers being larger than the stock, will I need any adapters or anything to hook the new headers to the existing exhaust pipes?

First time for me in modifying the exhaust system...

Thanks again!

Xplor, Got some part numbers for you, I went down to Gene Evans Ford (gefracing) and picked up my new headers today, and Sam gave me a catalog for the racing parts.

96 Expl 5.0 Stainless headers: M-9430-E50

97 Expl 5.0 Stainless headers: M-9430-E52

The M-9430-P50 is listed as 86-93 Mustang 5.0

The folks there are great, and I definitely see myself buying from them again!

Hope this helps!

GAEXPL, thanks for the info. I'll definately check into it. I have the Explorer Express catalog and those headers are in it. However, last time I called them they did not have them. Also interesting that you said they are listed as 86-93 mustang 5.0, so other brands of headers should work also I assume. Now I just need enough guts to buy them and have someone put these in for me. I am no way going to tackle putting them in

How much performance improvement with headers?

Have any of you guys that have installed headers, made any dyno comparisons before and after? If not, how about seat of the pants feeling? Have you felt much of a difference? Thanks, KZ

'98, XLT, 5.0, AWD

Took me all day Saturday to do it, but there is a definite difference.

What I cannot say is that the headers themselves made it all, after all, my specific manifold/stock-header was split in half. right along one of the welds.

IE my back pressure was little to none and the engine may have lacked performance because of it.

With the headers and the system being as it should, there is a NOTICABLE difference when starting from a light.

I'd like to say that the new headers made the difference, but I have no figures to back it up.

My mechanic said my ticking problem was also the right side header. I do a lot of towing my trailer. Are there headers that are "towing specific" which help with low range torque for pulling? Thanks Mike
