v6 vs. v8 trannies

I have read about and heard of many failing trannies from the 96-98 explorers with the v6 engine.

First off, is that the consensus? Secondly, is the transmission that fist with the 5.0 any more reliable?

I am considering a 5.0 explorer purchase in the 96-98 range and am wondering if it is a solid move.

Does anyone know the model of the v8 tranny?

The V8 would be the way to go. The 4R70W trans is a very solid transmission. I had trouble with te 5R55E I had in my 1999 Ranger - the reason I swaped the V8 and 4R70W in. I beat on my 4R70W alot and have had no issues. Also, the mustang guys beat them up pretty well and they seam to hold.
