I am doing a V8 Conversion on a 91 Explorer. Where can I find a cheap radiator that will fit the explorer with minimal to moderate modification? My question really is, Is there one off a car or truck that came stock with an V8 that would work for the explorer?

I am trying to find the cheepest option here!!
Thanks in advance for your input!!

asp84,
I do not have an answer to your exact question, BUT, two of my friends have use the stock "X"/Navajo radiator and have found them to work really well.

I use the after market unit from Advanced Adapters (A/A) for my Ranger conversion and I run a little hot. I do not boil over but it is still running on the hot side; makes the cab of the Ranger warm in the summer time.

I would try the X unit first and if it does not do the job try contacting A/A, Duffs, Kaufmanns, etc.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the reply......
Yes, I did check James Duff, A.A., Kauffman, etc. I am just trying to cut costs. These conversion radiators are in the price range of $350-650 dollars!!!

asp84,
Ok on the price, they are not cheap.

Try the stock radiator, if it is in good shape, and see how it works out. If the engine runs too hot then look for something different.
There are:
Better radiators, $$$
Better water pumps
A chemical call "Water Wetter", that help the water cool the engine somehow
Electric Fans
Transmission Coolers, to reduce the trans temp or remove the cooler from the stock raditor and replace it with a cooler and that will take some heat away. That is if you have an automatic.
A hood scoop will help, I lifted the back of my hood about 3/4" and it took away almost 10 degrees in engine temp. So a good crowl induction hood might do better.

The 5.0L's run hot so do not expect to have your temp down to 180 degrees; look for more like 200+ as the norm. My Ranger w/5.0L runs around 200 most of the time and around 210+ on the highway.

Good Luck,
