You can do it without the guide pins. If you feel the need. Get some bolts the same diameter but a little longer and cut the heads off so they act in the same manor that the guide pins would.

No need with the bonded separator plates.

I've seen other people say that. But I've allways wondered, the valve body allready has a dozzen bolts to it, what good does adding another 2 really do?
I'm planing on starting all the bolts by hand finger tite, then go though with torq wrench. With all the bolts started, that should hold it in place, right?

The guide pins are just temporary, they are screwed into where the valve body bolts go.

I know there temporary. But how much better of a job do those 2 guide pin's do compared to the other bolts that are allready going in there?

The guide pins are screwed into the case before installing the valve body to make sure the valve body lines up properly. They are then removed and replaced with the appropriate valve body bolts.

I understand.
But what I dont understand, cant the bolts them self line up the VB good enough? Are the pin's a super tight clearance?

Then why did ford put guide pin holes in there if there not needed?

Because when the case was designed there were no bonded separator plates, so they had to juggle the gasket/plate/gasket/VB combo and make sure they were aligned through the install process.
Bonded gaskets solved multiple issues.

Ah, now it makes sense.
But, unfortunately my new VBX (valve body express) does'nt use a bonded separator plate gasket :(
