I need help finding the right part number for the left valve cover on a 97 4.0 SOHC.

fordparts.com says it is part number 6582, but they show the same part number for left and right covers on the 4.0 OHV, SOHC, and 5.0 OHV. Obviously that's not right.

Any suggestions where I can find the exact part number?

Those part numbers are not the real Ford part numbers. They are another number system. (Nobody knows why Ford makes things so difficult with all their part number systems.) That 6582 code is simply a code to mean "valve cover", and it will map to multiple parts for different applications. You need to have access to the dealer parts database to find the real part number. Your dealer may be willing to tell you.

valve cover

Looks like Ford calls it a '"COVER - CYLINDER HEAD", Part #: F5TZ6582E.
$67.00 at Fordparts.com.

Hope this helps.

If you need a cover that price is good but recycled you can get for cheap.

According to Tascaparts online database the metal valve covers for the SOHC V6 have been discontinued. The right was $295.73 MSRP and the left was $241.43 MSRP. The above part number and price may be for the plastic valve cover and may not have the oil filler port which I think was relocated from the left to the right bank when the covers switched from metal to plastic.

I could probably get the casting # if you want that.

Thanks, but from the diagrams, that looks like it's for the OHV motor.

The SOHC has the oil filler on the left side.

If you could, that'd be great. I'd like to find a good used one that I can mail order.

Only one I found on ebay searching by year/make/model is pretty ugly, and there are no junkyards near me.

Ebay valve covers arre way overpriced. On this site, find member kbakiak...that's all you need to know dog.

SOME of them are on the left. Some are on the right, as Dale indicated above. My 2001 has always been on the right.
