well i hear a tic in the mornig for a little while (prob because of the oil not being warm enough yet) BUT it is very faint thru out the day i have heard of sea foam and will be changing my oil tomorrow so can anybody give me any info on seafoam wash.

also when ever i start it up it runs a bit rough like its running on only the battery and the alternator is not working properly but when i give it gas it seems like the alternator kicks on and it works. i had that problem a few years ago but in a chevy 350 swap into a 240 i dont think i had the 12 volt plus hooked up so a good step on the peddle makes it fine. im wondering if its the same thing.

and one more thing i hear a lot of screetching and squaking from the front end when i step on the brakes ITS NOT BAD BRAKES i just changed them i wondering if its the springs because my shocks need a change soon any input?? i have noticed i need to get new hubs or clean them really good and the noise started around when that happened. maybe its ball joints?? the truck it self only has 77,x.. original im not that past the shock replacement (60,000 right?)

any input appreciated and sorry for the bad grammar :)

crap i accidently posted in the modified can somebody move it for me thanks!!!:)

Seafoam the oil and take it for a good run before the oil change. Maybe try a synthetic oil like Pennzoil Platinum (its got the most cleaning additives) or run with some MMO for this oil change interval. That should help with the lifter tick, if it does not go away the injectors may be the guilty party.

MMO is marvel mystery oil right i have run that stuff before and every oil change i put injector cleaner thru it so im sure those are fine? :dunno:

also i have heard of putting tranny fluid or deisel fuel like replacing a quart of oil with ether one never done it but if i get enough people that say they have done it i will. i have also heard of kerosene but i dont think so its a great cleaner (of oil) haha dont think so if anybody has ever done that tell me cause ur crazy

Yes MMO is Marvel Mystery Oil.

There is a recent thread on the use of ATF in oil as a cleaner. As seen in this thread I am not a fan or a supporter of using ATF or fuels in the oil as a cleaning agent.

In there is a link to a thread I started on a oil website asking the same question about using atf as a cleaner, I recommend giving it a read too.

Try running a 5w-30 with the recommended amount of MMO and go for 3k and see what it will do for you as compared to just at the end of an oil change. Heck it just could be something as easy as changing the brand of oil you use or try running a 5w-30 instead of a 10w-30
The other thing I have heard about these 4.0's is that the pushrods get dirty and do not move the same amount of oil thru them after time. It is said that they are hard to get clean and some on this site have gone to Delta Camshaft and got new pushrods and had great results.

93 x,

You are running 5w-30 oil, right? Biggest mistake for this motor is running 10w-30 in our mild PNW climate. Parts of the rocker arm assembly don't get adequate lubrication when the engine (oil) is cold if you run 10w-30. The rockers are splash lubed, not pressure lubed. 10w-30 doesn't "splash" well enough when cold.

Quick question, did the squealing start after you changed the brakes? If so, then you may have put the clips/springs/whatever they are called on the pads wrong. I did this once by mistake, and had a lot of squealing and the "my brakes are shot" noises!

well it happened late after but im pretty sure i did it right but its more of the spring sound kind of. like my shocks are shot (but like i said they sould not be to far off because it only has 77,000) i have been working as a mechanic for years so im pretty sure i put everything back right but everybody makes mistakes right! i might look into it after i change the shocks on sunday

well u know i may be running 10w-30 so maybe that is the problem but i am changing the oil sunday so ill tell you if its better:thumbsup:

sweet yea my gf's sister lives there some good places but most of it it kinda "run down" but overall not a bad place to live. besides that i gotta bunch of mmo at home so ill give that a try when i change my oil. when ever i build any of my motors i get brand new push rods and hone them out even more (not too much) and they have served me good:thumbsup: so a ton of oil gets in the rockers real nicely.

I recently got an engine tic sound, and some lifter noise at startup (that sounds like the fan is hitting the shroud in the same place over and over) after switching over to Castrol EDGE 5W-30 from Castrol GTX 5W-30. Apparently Castrol edge is a really thin oil. 10W-30 *is* too thick for most not-burning-hot climates, but based on this it seems a thin oil isn't that good either. I'd say maybe go with a "high mileage" oil, they are usually on the thick end of the viscosity for the rated weight.

As for the brakes, it is likely either the clips, or sometimes pads comes with anti-squeal shims that stick onto the back of the brake pads. You could also have a caliper that isn't sliding correctly, and keeping the pad or wear indicator against the rotor. Pull the wheels/tires off and check 'em out. Making sure the clips are on correctly and the caliper slide pins have enough caliper slide pin grease should take care of things, unless there's another mechanical issue.

yea i am going to try that when i do my full tune up in a few days and arnt the indicators built into the pads on these things or is an ajustable one like on f250s so i have to adjust it... thanks!

I was less than a block from Dick's, so it wasn't so bad for me.
I have some pushrods sitting on my workbench I may have to give that a try.
