Sorry if this gets long, but I want to make sure to add in any useful information.
Yesterday my tensioner assembly broke to peices and the belt came off and got ripped to shreds while backing out of my driveaway. I have no idea why that happened. I cut it off and got under the hood and pulled out the broken tensioner pieces and took out the shredded belt. I then cranked it back up and pulled it immediately back into the garage (way too cold to work on it outside). It was VERY hard to steer without power steering. I ordered a new tensioner assembly and got it this morning.
I disconnected the battery and then put the new assembly and a new Gatorback belt on. I put everything back together, reconnected the battery, and cranked it up. I let it sit and run for 5 minutes for the computer to relearn how to idle. Everything seemed to be fine.
When I backed it out of the garage and turned the wheel, I felt and heard a severe vibration. I tried backing up and pulling forward while turning the wheel to see if maybe there was just some air in the power steering system some how. Still it vibrated. I then thought maybe it was somehow in 4wd from disconnecting the battery so I put it in 4wd auto and went back and forth. Still vibration. Then I put it back in 2wd and stuck my head out the window while moving and turning the wheels. I can actually SEE the tire shaking A LOT when turning the wheel.
I have no idea what can be causing this. Could disconnecting the battery have messed up the 4wd system or maybe the ABS system? Could pulling it back into the garage without power steering messed up the rack and pinion?
Please help ASAP since I HAVE to move a bunch of boxes tomorrow and they WILL NOT fit in my car. I don't care if I have to stay up all night to fix it.
