what i am building for a friend of mine is a flat roof rack/tire carier. and how it will look is there will be no side walls but just a flat platform 39"x39" and with a 37" tire in the middle. it will have two suports to hold the tires weight and three to hold the rack to the roof. the part i am having trouble with is, how to attatch it to the roof and still have it look clean and as close to the roof as possible. how to attatch it to the rail racks on a 92 x is the problem. pics and ideas would be great. thanks :us:

I've read that putting a big wheel/tire combo up there will raise your center of gravity, significantly. Also, it's pretty hard to lift something that heavy over your head (to put it up there or bring it down). You may want to consider a roof rack for a shovel and hi-lift jack and other light-weight, large items. Leave the spare down low (in the cargo area or on a bumper mount).

My $0.02 - Dave.

LOL only teeny boppers who dont know what real 4wheeling is put a tire on the roof. It decrease gas mileage, catches tree limbs, hold dirt, runs tire juics all over your truck when it rains, increases you COG, decreases your ability to sidehill, increases you chance of rolling... nothing posotive to say about a tire on the roof.

and wait till you drop one off teh roof and it bounces into your quarter panel. It leaves a nice sized wrinkle.

well this thing is more for looks than function. i dont even bring a spair tire for lbs. ill probly make it anyway and see how it works. thanks for the input tho

What he said.............and it sounds like its going to be ugly too! No sides?? What is the point if it can't hold anything??

They make some mounts and cross bars that will slide right into the stock rails. Find those and you're golden.
