Alright guys, I hve to admit that I hate the runnin boards on my '96 Eddie Bauer… I have no need for them, heck my grandma even said they just get in the way. So soon I plan on taking them off, fix the rust beneath them, then never put them back on. But I dislike the look of the plug method, so is there any 4 door explorers that came with a plastic panel that goes with the fender flares, and along the rockers??? I Am even open to getting ends off of 2 door, and fiber glassing the middle section to make it look right, I just dislike te running boards that much. Input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Harold.

base model xl's had just a panel and no running board. you might want to brace yourself on whats going to be under them however. unless your really lucky, you may not like what you see when you pull yours off.

I am expecting the worst. I already planned on ordering new rockers and dog legs. Thankfully I will be learning to weld during this project, but it is also good because it will be under the plastic panels, lol. After I'm die I am just going to POR15 everything so I won't hVe to worry for the rest of the life of the truck.

I hate the running boards too..
Here's what it looks like on my XL:

hopefully they will flow into my fender flares, with the Eddie Bauer I have much lager ones, but I don't mind a little custom work as long as it will look good.

It should flow in, as long as your little plastic piece right at the bottom of the front fender matches your flares, and you can shape it to match the XL trim.

If you do find out how to take that trim piece off.. please do tell me, since mine is warped bad.. Someone jacked the truck up by the fenders..
