Warming up question

How long should it take for an X to warm up from a cold start, in 60 degree weather? By warming up I mean the needle is at normal. It takes mine an hour of driving to get the gauge just into the start of the 'normal' label. Think I should try a new sender or gauge?

Or thermostat.
 






should only take 5-10 min's to warm up..and that in 15 dgree weather..
 






I thought if the thermostat was the problem I would be overheating.
 






No, it can also work the other way.
 






that depend's where the t-stat got stuck..if it got stuck open then it wouldent heat up very fast
 






Replaced the thermostat AND................. you were right Alec, as usual :cool:

I'm hoping for better mileage since the old thermostat was stuck open. Does that mean my X was never truely warmed up?
 






not necessarily, but it took a long time to warm up ;)
 






if you do a lot of city driving, you truck could have warmed up, but if you average mostly highway miles, i dont think you'll see a difference.
 






I was stuck below the normal range. I replaced the thermostat & I'm still in the cold range. I never get above the N in normal. Even sitting in traffic with the AC cranked in 85 degree weather.
 






Could be your gauge or temperature sender..
 






Or another bad thermostat Jason.... That's been known to happen!

Same here. When the needle hits the "n" in normal it drops almost off the scale and then slowly builds back up to right below the "n".
 






Or maybe "n" is the normal temperature at which the thermostat opens. I don't know how precise or accurate the dash gauge really is, but I like to hook up a voltmeter to the computer's temperature sensor and verify the actual temperature. Perhaps "n" corresponds to the temperature of your thermostat. What temp thermostat did you install?
 






I used a "heavy duty" 195 degree Stant. The highest the needle's gotten to is the "o" in "Normal". When I first took it out I was as high as the needle could go after 2 minutes. I was surprised how much coolant that radiator actually needed.
 






The 94 sport I used to have had the needle always in the middle or normal. Maybe the gauge in the new 94 is just not accurate.
