Water in the engine?

the sea foam will not cure idle problems, its great for cleaning once in a while but its not a miracle worker.
Did you replace the plugs?
$100 starter is CHEAP! new they are $275+
Glad to hear its running, give it a few days to smooth out, dont forget when you reset your battery the PCM thinks it is a new truck and it takes so many key on key off cycles before it sets itself back to baseline idle, etc.

Thanks. There is no carquest around my neighborhood that I know of. I'll just keep looking. I do realize that sea foam itself doesn't cure bad idling. But, if the problem causing your rough idling is a extremely dirty intake manifold, then Sea Foam could be the cure for your idle problems. And when you say resetting the battery, do you mean just disconnect it for a while?

Yes, You did have the battery disconnected while hte truck dried out right?
Anytime you do any work on sensors, engine, coils, anything reset the battery!
- cable comes off, 10 seconds will do the trick...

The first thing I did when I got home was disconnect the battery. At the time I wasn't worried about resetting the computer, I just didn't want to short out any electrical things that might have gotten wet. Also, from running my lights all the way down the mountain, I didn't have much power left, and I knew I would need to be carefull if I wanted enough to get it started again once I had it all cleaned up.

Not only is it good to reset your battery everytime you do work on electrical parts, I think you should disconnect it every time you do any work on your x. This will prevent that jolting feeling of electricity flowing through your body when you accidentally touch something you shouldn't have. I know I've brushed up against the battery terminals and accidentally set down a wrench on top of it and shocked the crap out of myself.

cover your terminals so that cant happen.
Any mechanics book whats step one for every proceedure?

Step 1: Disconnect negative battery terminal.

so it's all back togeth and running great, except I think the catalytic converter is clogged with mud. I'm gonna take it in tomorrow and get the exhaust system checked.

good call, if its running good that suckers not that clogged, clogged cat = no run at all, or serious lack of power.

Go drive through some deep water, that oughta get the mud out :)

Also I hope you got the mud out of your radiator....

I was joking about the deep water BTW

At idle, it runs smoother than it ever has. Revving it slowly, it does pretty good up to about 3500 RPM's. If I have to drive up a hill, or if I rev it fast, then it just about stalls. I looked underneath, and the first cat was glowing red hot. There is a very good chance that it got clogged with mud. (well not really mud, just dirty water.) Maybe it's just partially clogged.

I read that and about fell off my chair laughing, thanks

I did flush the radiator, the tranny, the oil, and put some sea foam in the gas. I also tried the sea foam getting sucked in through that hole under the TB, and was very dissapointed at the lack of a good smoke show. The reason for that is prolly cause I cleaned everything good enough to eat off of before I put it back together so there is nothing left to clean out.

BTW, does anyone know off the top of their head what the inlet and outlet size of the catalytic converter is for the 4.0L? The exhaust is stock. I found a high flow cat on ebay for $36US. But I'm too clean and lazy to go out and measure it right now.

Thanks, Matt

drop the exhaust down, get yourself a long rod, smash the catalyst inside the cat to a pulp, use a shop vac ans suck it all out. Hollow cat, it will run better until you can get a replacement....

Also despite what this post says you did not hear that from me, somebody logged in as me and typed it.

:D :D :D
