Water in Transfer case Question

was wondering if water in the t-case can/will cause the front driveshaft clutch to slip?

isent the t case all gears? I really have no idea but i just thougt it was all gears.

A gear driven t-case? I wish, but not for a long time unfortunately. Your T-case (X-ing's) has a chain drive with an electromagnetic clutch. When the (GEM I believe) senses the rear wheels slipping it adds power to the front axle via the Torque On Demand clutch(probably what you are calling a drive shaft clutch) Water inside of it could possibily cause a slipping. Does it make a snapping/popping noise? Was it ever subject to abuse? I had junked my 4wd t-case's TOD clutch by wheeling, and beating it up in the winter. I'd drain the t case and see what comes out. New fluid may fix it.

Bought it used on June 22.
Noticed a couple of days later my x would clunk and pop repeatedly while in 4x4 auto.

looked under driver's seat, noticed that the seat brackets are very rusty. I am now thinking it was in a flood even though CARFAX had not reported it.

Pull up the door sill and pull back some carpet. If it was flooded there will be sand/silt If it had been submerged it probably would have wierd elctronic glitches. We recently rebuilt a flood damaged truck, and it was quite obvious what happened to it. I think more likely is that someone either snapped it into 4wd while the tires were spinning, or it was beat up by the previous owners kid. They probably took it to ford and was told "It'll be about 3k to fix, but we would let you trade it in, full blue book on this new one"

I forgot about the Chain I also didnt pay attention to his truck being a 03 lol. If it was my X their wouldnt be a clutch would there?

Your correct the first gens t case (bw1354) uses a "traditional" locked truck tranfer case.
