Hey guys. I've searched time and time again for this answer on the boards, but am having a hard time finding one. Is water intrusion a big problem for MAC AIs? I'm a bit worried because it's an open element that's right under the hood seam. I know a lot of guys on here have them so I was wondering what your experiences have been.
I really want to get one, but I've just got that nagging worry in the back of my head.
Thanks!

ive had mine for nearly a year now and i havent had a problem with it. Just dont do alot of mudding or bogging where water may spray (in mass amounts) to ur CAI. and if ur really worried you could make a box to protect it

There are quite a few people who use a box to protect the element if they know they are going to be in wet conditions.

Thanks for the quick responses!
It's a 2WD, so I'm not going to be doing any mudding, not that I don't want to though. Tucson, doesn't really have any bogs or anything, it's a desert.
What I'm concerned about really, is washing it and heavy rains. I know it's PROBABLY not going to be a big deal, I'm mostly just looking for confirmation.
Thanks again.

Those kind of situations shouldn't cause you any problems. However if your washing your engine bay you should wrap the filter in plastic to keep it from getting wet.

2wd is no reason not to mod ur X lol i have 2wd and im modding mine for racing ^_^
Check out my Final Plans

Besides 2wd is faster than awd on the strip because of loss of power through the transfer case :) techieman still hates me for my 2wd lol
