Weighed the Explorer today!

The Explorer payload capacity is about 900-1000 lbs. This includes driver and anything else they bring along. This plus the curb weight equals the GVWR. I doubt if the GVWR is unique to each vehicle since I am certain Ford doesn't weigh each vehicle. The GVWR probably accounts for things like the JBL/Mach Stereo with subwoofer, amplifiers, power seats, air-lift suspension and anything else that Ford would install that adds weight. The only things they probably take into account when listing the GVWR are transmission, engine, # of doors and 4x4 vesus 2WD. Don't expect the GVWR to be exactly your payload capacity plus your curb weight. It will be close though, probably within 100 lbs. (disregarding anything you added that isn't factory).

Fully loaded with camping gear and a full gas tank 5500lbs but only if i skyscraper my safari rack and am packing for a 4 day weekend.
