Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The top of my rear hatch was in bad shape, so I did that, along with finally doing a better job on the black on the bottom. Before the black had just been a quick spray job.

I still am going to sand and then do the final clear on the hatch tomorrow, but this is good for now. And yes, I know there is a little over spray visible on the roof and roof rack, it's just I didn't bother covering that, because the paint on the roof is peeling anyway, and the rack is turning gray. Both of those will be sprayed sometime soon. The rest of the car was covered, so besides that (where I didn't care about it) there aren't any over spray problems.

I'm especially happy with how the hatch turned out. I'm surprised it didn't rust, because it was down to metal on the top near the hinge, with the whole edge peeled back to metal about 1/4" back from the edge. I'm not complaining, though. The painting doesn't look professional, but it looks pretty good, and is good enough for me. Maybe I'll tackle the roof and roof rack tomorrow if I'm feeling up to it and have enough time.

Looks good.

Painting is a cheap do-it-yourself mod that makes a big overall difference to the look of your truck.

That's a nice looking gloss finish you have there.

Nice work Charlie.

why did you paint instead of use a bed liner on the rockers?

looks good btw :)

Because the original paint was somewhat beat up, and I didn't feel like messing with bedliner:D

And risking hootus complications.

good job. What type of paint did you use?

Good ol' rattle can. I'm surprised how well it turned out, especially on the back hatch. That part the paint looks better than the rest of the car!

And risking hootus complications.

Yep, that's exactly it!:p:

I may later bedline it, but for now I'm leaving it at this. I like the look of the bottom being black, and didn't want to mess with/spend the cash for bedliner, because this beloved explorer may not be around for much longer:(

looks bad ass

very nice job.
