Hi guys

Just noticed that welding seam near tailgate hinges looks really weird. It kinda inaccurate and paint is cracked showing yellow primer. Does that look like repair work? If so, what could cause that damage, should I check anything else, I am afraid if the car had some serious accident. Thanks, phitos attached

Do you see ripples on the roof in the metal up by the A posts in front? If not you are more likely than not totally fine. Any “major” rear end collision would leave ripples up front on these trucks.

I dont see any ripples, roof looks fine - have a look at the photos.

Do you think the rear is a custom repair? I wouldn’t think a factory would leave welding like this, however I am not sure, maybe they did it like this back in 2006

Probably a factory weld, considering this is the type of stuff they put out on their show cars. Here is an example of Fords welding on a GT at the SEMA show, right there for everyone to see. Pic posted by another member years ago.

That doesn’t look like weld to me, it looks like a body, or seam seal covering a weld.

If you see an actual "bead" of weld material, it probably is NOT factory, the factory uses "SPOT" welds. Dont confuse seam sealer with weld material, ofter times it looks like a "bead" of welding but the factory body panels are spot welded together.

Thank you, guys. I agree, it does look look like a seam sealer, but still weird. Especially that it goes all the way from one hinge to another. I simply cant imagine what collision apart from roll over the roof can lead to this if it is a repair

can someone please post a photo of the same place from their Explorer?

If it were rolled, that’s not where they’d cut the roofline, most likely. It goes from side to side because there’s a seam under that whole line of goo. Just crappy finishing from Ford.

Your roof paint is in better shape than my 2006.
