welding your spider gears!

Carriers are cheap and its easy to do.....Just weld it up... I had my full size welded for about two years and It has had a spool for over a year now....No real problems. Just rotate the tires and lighten up on the go pedal, take your turns just a little bit wider and watch the twisties when its raining.... No worries....

Agreed. I am seriously considering welding up my 8.8. I built a Chrysler 8.25 a couple of weeks ago for a buddy and welded the carrier. I wasn't as conservative as the guy who posted before me. I welded every part of spider/side gear I could. I welded them together and to the carrier all the way around. If it comes apart, so will everything else. It seems to work really good in the rocks and it itsn't as bad as I expected on the streets. As a matter of fact, with the Super Swamper TSLs that he is running (I am running the same tires) it will not squeel around even a U turn full throttle. I think this is due to the soft compound. And though they don't squeel, the do leave black foot prints wherever he turns tight or is on the gas. I might just wewd my rear (definately not my front) because I am too cheap to buy a locker. Truth be told, something selectable is what I really want. I had a lockright in my TTB front until I broke it. It was scary anytime the hubs were locked on the street. Wheeled like a dream though. I am not putting a lunchbox locker in anything I own EVER again- whether it comes from down under or not.
