Well finally

SCEXPLORER,
im not sure who u were asking about the 32's, but if it was me, the answer is yes lots of trimming. i had to remove moldings to drive home from the tire shop since i could not trim them there. i took up enough of their time removing the moldings in their bay.

I have the big fender flares so i was wonedering how much did you trim and how did u trim it? Did u have to cut the bumper also. I really want to fit 32's so should i take out all the moldings before i get it installed?

fender flares

Well they just end where they end.... they don't go all the way to the end of the rocker panels but it doesn't look bad.... I just have to work on getting the holes plugged up ( ok comment on this one and die! lol) (another ingenious idea from this board) I have the plugs now I have to get the time.... tomorrow is the day!!! The Warn Trans4mer and winch go on.... I got the yellow top Optima Battery (its supposed to fit better than the Red top).... the Surco Rack and the lights...

the lights are not going to be wired until Sunday or sometime next week.....I went to Radio shack and got an electrical box for the breaker switch panel to sit in... I have the perfect place to put it too..... I wrenched out the plastic cup holder/ashtray unit and it fits perfectly into that spot..... it makes it easier to wire too... I'll be sure to take pics of that too....

on painting

I have a 96 XLT with Deflectashield Fender Flares, 2" of lift and 31x10.5x15 tires on 15x8.5 inch wheels. Did you replace your standard EB fender flares? I don't see the running board, and if memory serves me correctly, the standard flares match up to the running board. If you have them lying around, I'd be interested in buying them from you.

Also, I'm sick of my damn chrome on the Explorer. Everyone talks about painting the bumpers, but I can only imagine how expensive it would be to DECHROME and powder coat them. Would it be cheaper or even possible to simply spray that special stuff they put on truck beds for protection? Sort of like that spray-on duraliner stuff? I saw one guy in town with that sprayed on his fender flares and bumpers and it looked awesome. Just don't know if it sticks to chrome.

I really don't know the answer

I pondered the same question myself....when everyone was telling me that I should paint the chrome part of the bumper (rear) to match the front black one.....I called the collision center and asked if they had ordered it in black or did they paint it....and they told me it was ordered in black... the funny thing about the front bumper though it's not a powder coat....it's kinda shiney black..... I was thinking that if it wasn't going to be too expensive that I would do the back one...

The fender flares that I have on it right now are the stock Eddie Bauer flares that came with the truck... like I said...they don't come all the way around to the end of the rocker because the running boards that were on there had the rest of them....I don't have them...they were sold already sorry...

Now for my rant $%#($#( f**kin rain!!! now nothing can be done this weekend.. here I go counting on the weatherman to be right..... supposed to be nice and sunny all weekend until the weather forecast on Friday night.... now it's raining like a SOB sheesh I gotta find someone with a (working) garage... :(

Karol

Karol, very nice truck. I'll wait till I wreck mine and I'll paint it like yours. Hehe. What did you do to the running boards after you took it off??

OMG

If I would have known these running boards would be this popular with you guys I would have saved them for someone who needed them on the board.... I sold them to a neighbor down the street with a 96 EB his had been taken off from the previous owner and his wife was buggin him to get some put on... I'm sorry guys

Karol

lol. too funny. i always felt that way when i lived in kansas. @#$!*(%@ weather! but now i live in southern california so the weather is almost never bad enough to stop me from working on my explorer. it's just the @#$!*(%@ traffic!!! i can't drive my explorer anywhere without getting stuck between someone's front and rear bumpers.

Hmmm... I have a set of 2000 Eddie Bauer fender flares that I was going to paint grey metallic(like an XLT) but now that I see yours in black I think I like that look better. Besides that it is easier to find black spray bombs with a flex agent added than grey.

I'm kinda curious why nobody ever wanted to buy my brand new "take off" 2000 Eddie Bauer running boards but they are climbing over themselves to get yours. ;) Mine are still for sale if anyone wants them. Incudes all mounting hardware. Maybe I should sell them to Gerald. He seems to go through running boards like kleenex. :)

Actually, Paul, if yours were '99 I'd have grabbed them as soon as you put 'em up for sale. But '00 doesn't have the lamps and mine does.

??

Lamps? ok tell me what you guys are talking about...

Karol

'99 Eddie Bauer running boards have puddle lamps in the front and rear that light up the running board when you click on your keyfob unlock or open a door. The '00 running boards are identical except they didn't have the lamps so there is no hole to install my lamps into them.
