16.328 @ 83.547 MPH

Is with the DA correction. Told you my explorer was a factory freak. Now time for headers and tune!

Told you my explorer a factory freak
lol yeah you did - weren't we at Katy's house when you told me personally about this?

Say what? Who's katy??

Stock? you ran a 16.7? Full weight with spare, 1/4 tank gas

Hmmmm maybe I'll fix the throttle cable :P

Still I get 22mpg at 118km/h haha

You ran a 16.9 with exhaust and intake. Then 16.7 with headers? Does that count? Unless I read it wrong.

My 16.7 is just with exhaust.

I was just verifying that in fact, you "did tell" me that your Explorer was factory freak. :D

I'm just saying your close to where you should be, you do have a cat back exhaust as well, and the factory intake really isn't much if any of a bottle neck in a stock motor. And the "corrected" time for the run with the headers is 16.075 @ 84.019 MPH, and that's with a vacuum leak.

Techieman33 is right. 16's to low 17's or so is what our 5.0L Explorers are stock/lightly modded.

Well then I know what to look forward too with headers and no vacuum leak. Tune will help even more.

Plus cam but that is in the spring when I don't need AWD

Great job!

5.0's are quick, but techiman33 know's 4.6's are a tad quicker:D

Looking forward to how the new mods affect your time. I bet you'll soon by running high-15's!

high 15's? Maybe with more work on top of what he has planned... Ask Techie.

Whoops, I had his DA correction as his current time;)

I've see what it takes for a 5.0 with several bolt-on's and some weight reduction to run in the 15's. I've run Eric several times at the dragstrip before he flipped his first Mountaineer. Hopefully he'll get the new one moving faster and we can run again. Then I am going to have more work to do because by the time he is ready to run, I'll be looking at his tailights!

Some of the challenges with these trucks are the stock cam and weight. Once all the breather type mods and tuning is done.

What is a good launch technique ?

With the awd the launch isn't very challenging. stage, put your left foot on the brake, right foot on the gas to about 2k rpm. When the last yellow lights simultaneously remove your left foot from the brake and smash the gas with your right foot and hang on for the ride. That will get you close, then from there you just have to play with the launch and figure out what works best for you.

What about the issue with holding it down vs like 90% throttle? Or is that only an issue with a few trucks? With the truck kinda bogging out a lil bit. Hard to explain unless you know what I'm talking about or have read those threads.

I see 15.9s at least with corrected DA with my headers, tune. If not then a cam will be putting me into the 14s with or without a corrected DA.

It will due for now, also fixing the throttle cable, changing the tranny fluid and bumping shifting pressure by 20%. it all adds up in the end. Then I'm driving it till it dies.
