I was browsing websites yesterday when I came across EE's X Suspension kit. It sounds like a good idea but theres NO WAY IN HELL I'm gonna throw away $780+! I was wondering if I lowered my '98 4wd. 2dr 1 3/8" and put on a sway bar, what all I'd need to do the install? Will I need new shocks? What all will I need for the drop? Just camber adjusters? Is the install something I can do? Is it safe for my car? I heard its bad for my ball and CV joints? Thanks Alot!

P.S. - My car has 86k miles on it

Let's see, here is my list:

Tortion twist: $0
2" drop blocks: $25
Cut bump stop: $0
Camber kit and allignment: $200
Edelbrock IAS: $298
Sway Bar: $264

Total: $787

Yep, figure to spend that much. Except for Camber kit and allingment, you could do/install everything yourself.

How exactly do I drop the back end? Would it be ok just to run the truck on the stock shocks w/ the front lowered about 2" and the back 1 3/8"? Will I notice a difference between the stock sway bar and the aftermarket one w/ the truck at stock height? Thanks Again

You drop the back end by buying the 2" universal drop blocks with U-bolts (see below) at any autoparts store. I got mine at PepBoys. You could run the stock shocks but you won't be happy with them. They become too bouncy almost immediately. The sway bars? I can't tell you just yet. Explorer Express hasn't shipped mine yet. Check back with me next week. ;)

Actually, you can lower a 2-Door Sport at the rear without installing the lowering blocks. The Sports have a spacer plate at the rear leafs. Simply swap these plates to the other side of the axle and you get .75' - 1" at the rear. You may notice that Sports seem to sit lower at the rear as is. Do the torsion twist at the front and you are set. Boom, you have a free lowering job! You do not need our complete kit for a 1998 Sport. You do need the camber adjusters in order to adjust the camber. The suspension bumpers, special Edelbrock Shocks and big rear sway bar will vastly improve the ride and handling. Once you have this stuff installed, you will not think it is a waste. You can definitely do it yourself. Our lowering kit comes with instructions & free tech support. You can do it in stages. We have been lowering Explorers this way since 1997. We have sold over 800 of these kits! We have installed many of these in our own shop with great results. We have not found it be to a problem with the ball joints or the C/V joints. We would not recommend this if it was not safe. Here is a breakdown of the costs:

-2 Door Lowering Kit ..........................................$ 84.95
Includes Camber Adjusters, Instructions & Tech Support
-Special Bump Stops & Rear Suspension Bumpers........$ 89.95
-X-Spec Rear Sway Bar (group buy price until 9/30)......$159.95
-Edelbrock Shocks for lowered Explorers
Special Price For Explorer Forum Members....... $69ea $279.90
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total Price (not including shipping)................................$614.80

Sorry, snobrder9186, I missed the fact that you have a sport. Yours should be a bit cheaper to lower. I don't want to sound like a commercial but you are in good hands with John V. :)
