What brake pads do you use?

I've used Wearever Ceramics from AdvanceAuto for my past 2 front brake jobs but I am not impressed with them what so ever. I changed them in Sept 2012 and then had to change them in Jul 2013 and now it's May 2014 and they need to be replaced AGAIN. 2 sets of brake pads for maybe 30K miles seems a bit excessive for ceramics. Not to mention their stopping power isn't THAT much better then the non-ceramics I was using previously.

What pads do you use?

There is a rebate on Wagner thermo quiet for both ceramic and semi metallic. I use the Wagner semi metallic and get good wear and stopping. I do some towing as we'll. Make sure you don't have any other brake issues, I don't know your driving habits but ~ 1 year for ceramics does not sound normal to me.

I try and use ceramics and they usually last me a good while...possible you just found a bad batch?

Driving Style - Queens NY on the daily -_-. The time doesn't bother me so much as the only getting 15K miles out of them.

I don't believe I have any other brake issues. The pedal has always felt a bit soft but the fluid level has always been fine, calipers and sliding pins operate as they should, I had the entire system flushed and checked for leaks/air last year. I'm almost wondering if these pads are just ****, because I was getting about 15K out of cheapo pep boys and autozone pads. I stepped up to the ceramics to try and get some more length out of them. I'm not expecting to get 25-30K out of brakes like my dad and brother get on their cars, but 20K+ would be nice.

A long time ago, aap used to have a lifetime warranty on their pads, even normal wear. That has changed, I think O'Reilly's has a lifetime on some of theirs or they did a few years ago. Just bring in the worn pads a get a new set. Maybe that has changed too. Might want to give the wagner ceramics a try, I think a lot of folks on this forum like them and get much more than 15k. With the $15 rebate and the aap 30% online code you will have about $26 invested in them.

i use AutoZone C-Max ceramics on the front and i'm very happy with them. no noise, no brake dust, stops well. organics on the rear. i think pretty much any decent quality organics on the rear are fine. they don't do much work in stopping and i find i get 80k-90k out of them. the thing i like about AutoZone is their Reward's Card and that once you buy brake pads, you never have to pay for replacements again. no questions asked and you can even upgrade to a different pad if you not happy with the ones you purchased and get full credit.

Ditto on Wagner Thermo Quiet's. Hard to beat these pads for the final cost of $16 to $22 pr.

Wagner Thermo-Quiet ceramics for sure. Nice pad and great stopping power.

I use TRW Lucas wherever possible.
They can run almost as hot as track pads but don't need to be warmed up and have low dust and last well.

The only other options I have for my BMW are ATE and Pagid which come with a bucket of carbon dust to throw on your wheels to save time filthing them up.

But you have a bigger range in the US.

Just finished a 4 corner brake job with rotors TODAY. Used the Wager T'quiet semi-metallic. Very highly recommended and a great deal. Just gotta' wait a few weeks for the $30 rebate. Stops on a dime now.

I've been using Napa's Adaptive One ceramic pads on two of my explorers now. The ones currently on my 00 X (front and rear) have just over 50k miles on them and still have a good amount of meat left. I definitely recommend them and the shop I work at we only use the ADOs from Napa on our brake jobs.
