I was wondering with a lowered TT/Shackles, Bamachip, Intake and 2.5' catback... what would I be able to run with as far as other trucks or SUVs? I know the SCT Xcaliber is good for almost 20rwhp and 20ft lbs but what about intake and a catback? I would just like to know what trucks or SUV's I should or shouldn't bother playing with. SOHC 4.0

Most other trucks. Anything that's a sport version(Lightning, etc.) you should not go near. Stick to stock vehicles, preferably driven my soccer moms. V8 explorers, durangos or dakotas will annihilate you. Use your best judgement, explorers aren't sports cars.

I'll let someone else yell at you about posting stuff in the wrong spot.

WHY DID YOU POST IN THE WRONG PLACE :fire: !?!?! really i dont care but my intake gave me 8 extra ponies(K&N) and the exhaust gave about 12 extra ponies (Magnaflow) so i would say that is in reality about 18 extra ponies cause you cant really trust the man. of the stuff. I also have spark plugs and spark plug wires(Denso and Taylor) these were suppost to give me about 8 extra ponies dont know if it is really there. The seat-of-the-pants dyno says all the extra ponies are there, but i have yet to get my tuner and get it dyno tuned once i do i will write it up here

from this you make your choices about who to try and take on, i have beat some v-8 but not many. i do not condone street racing it is agains the law so just keep that in mind. A friend of mine in a Toyota Supra was cought street racing by a truck that was unmarked.

Well I was just wondering if my 4.0 SOHC, with bamachip, intake and exhaust could take my friends 2006 Tundra Extended cab because he is talking alot of smack, as well as friends with stock 4.8L and 5.3L Silverados...

A stock v8 AWD won't annihilate a SOHC, expecially if its 2wd. A 2wd v8 will beat a SOHC pretty easily, ,especially if its a SOHC 4x4.

Why are the 5.0 V8's so much faster than 4.0 SOHC they only make a rated 5hp more... and why would a modded 4.0 SOHC even have to worry about it? I live in Maine and there is hardly any 2wd SUV's. I just want to be able to shut my friend up and actually have some respectable power, for what my truck is anyways... surprise the **** out of some blazers, trailblazers, tahoes? 4.3 S-10's... I have beaten a newer 4.3 4wd S-10 that had exhaust, I beat a 4.0 Explorer Sport-Trac on the highway stock for stock by about a truck length, and I'm sure I would never have a problem with any 4 cyl truck especially with mods. I just see why if with these mods I am making a good 25 ish RWHP that I can't play with some new stuff. Also, is this extra hp enough that my rear end could break loose under hard accel? No way in hell can it now unless you romp on it, cut the wheel and it's a bit wet... snow is no problem

well the real way to see what you can take on is to take it on, if you lose then you change something and come back again, if you lose again you change something again. I know that is how i know what to rev at.

That is what I wish I knew, I want to be able to have the broadest powerband setting so it isn't too low end but not too high end because no matter where the power is, if it isn't spread throughout I will either get reeled in from the top end, or taken in the low. No matter what the power will be there and I will be better up top regardless. I just don't see why I wouldn't be able to run with Durangos, Tahoes etc etc... the 5.3 327 V8 only makes a rated 245Hp and they weigh THAT much more, same with the Durangos or V8 Dakotas... If I am making the same WHP then I'm sure with a lighter SUV I could, the Explorer is 4100 lbs I believe... against other V6 SUV's they shouldn't be able to play. I'd really like to know if I will have enough power to break the rear tires loose.

There is more to speed than "man, I have, like, 3 more rwhp I can take him" There is torque, gearing, maintenance, and a host of other things. As far as guessing how much horsepower you have over stock, the only way is to run it on a dyno.

As to getting the rear tires loose if you have the 4x4 dont count on it, the 4x4 shifts power when the wheels start to slip so no burnout. You can spend the $60 to get it on the dyno. That is the only way to know for sure how much power you are really making. But i am telling you the only way that you will know if you can beat them is to RACE them. If you lose you lose and you go and mod your truck some more.

When someone gets around to it. It's not a high priority.

A stock V-8 is only .1 faster than a SOHC stock 0-60. So will the 8 completely kill the 6? No way. I have out accelerated a 8 on many occasions when I had only a CAI! It basically comes down to a drivers game of who will win. Why ask this question, go pick on one and find out. Now the ohv, your sh-- out of luck, the v-8 will trample you.

James just because you can kick all of our colective ass now. But you are right it comes down to the driver and like i and you said GO AND RACE, that will tell you what you can run with

Who cares....if u lose....ur in an explorer....go have fun.....I do....I race anything That rev's back.....I have a 99 SOHC 4.0 with CAI, exhaust, and a Superchip flip chip that they no longer make.....and I have only lost to a Silverado turbo diesal......i have beaten dodge 1500's, f150's, other X's, and I have yet to lose to a Civic or neon! haha...lots of them lil ricers around here...nothin with turbo's tho!

give your tranny a break (not literaly), its smack in the middle of 200hp, and 4200lbs, what do you think will happen if you beat it? the steeper your FDR, the less strain it seems to put on it since its easier to turn. it depends on what you have. most of the new 4.0 sohc come with 4.10's and thats it, for good reason. getting off the line fast is your best hope, the sohc likes to rev and if you can get it to of the line quickly enough you can take advantage of its upper rpm ability. the bad part is 1000rpm is there before 5000rpm, and the sohc doesnt shine till over 3000. it also helps to do research on the other vehicals in your area. i know moms bravada can eat my ex in th first 30 feet, better torque from the 4.3 vortec, but it feels like it falls off fast over 3500 it also as 190Kmi on it tho. most ohv you could probly take in a 1/4 mile but in an 1/8th its hard to say. personaly i'd stay away from other ohc or dohc truck/suvs.

durangos/v8 explorers ur gonna wax them on the top side. dakotas go for them if there 4wd and not a R/t. the 4.7 dakotas almost stock run around a 15.3ish, my roommate has a 98 ext. cab 4wd dakota runs 16.1 at best w/ 318, 4.10 gears, K&N CAI, full exhaust, and a blaster coil so unless u can hear a lopy idle or super loud exhuast race the heck out of them who cares. but dont get discuraged if ur loosing in the first 20ft or so b/c v8s and 90* v6 are gonna make more low end torque so they are gonna lanch better but the 4.0 SOHC is nasty on the top side. ive got a budy w/ a 00' EB explorer 4.0 SOHC ,4.10 open, diablo chip and a gutted air box and hes bustin mad heads open on the highway. best way for u to race ppl is from a roll around 55-60 b/c thats like his magic mph and its got plenty of power up to 120 but he lets off b/c the speedo doesnt go any higher. silverados the quickest ive seen a Z71 run was 16.5 (ext. cab 4wd)the regular cab short bed ones can hold their own though they give my roomates truck a run for the money and then they wax him on the top side, but remember nobody keeps tally

Dont try to race any '05+ Xterra or V6 Frontier. I test drove them last week and they are pretty quick.

I will soon be the second STS Turbocharged Explorer, but the first V8 one:) I am hoping to be in the 13s with 5-6lbs of boost on my heavy wheel/tire combo.
