I painted mine myself. Paint and supplies were about $400. If you do a search on this site you can find the thread (old explorer gets new paint). I did a complete write up with pics costs and time required for each step. I had an experienced body man doing most of the work.

color change, Pro job?For show? do you offroad?

i have a white xlt right now with the plastic bumpers and want those painted but want it to match the rest of the body...no offroadin...i dont want anything too special just a solid white

I paid 500 for mine. It was painted about 1.5-2 years ago and it's holding up very well. They also repaired some pass. side 1/4 panel damage from my accident. Getting deals through my dad's old dealership is awesome. :D

EDIT: My paint job normally costs about 1.5-2k at this same shop.

ah man, thats weak...what about just getting the bumpers painted? i just dont want them to be shiny and the body to be lackluster...what is yalls experience with this?

You can paint a a crome or plastic bumper. You will need to prep it and rough it up. Then prime and paint. It may be easer to go to a junkyard and get painted bumpers.

If you're worried about the paint on the truck being to dull, then get it buffed out. If you know what your doing you can bring back a lot of shine. If you don't then let a body shop do it.
I did it myself on a '91 cougar with very good results except for a few edges where I actually rubbed through the paint. I didn't know I had to be so careful. I would do it again if I had too 'cause now I know what to be careful of.

BTW JDraper, beautiful 'Stang.

It is in the body shop right now getting shaved and repainted pearl white.
I paid 1,600.00 for the bottom to get painted.
