Im going to get my tires replaced by fords recall... i have to decide between 31's or 265\75's what do you guys think? I know the difference is small but im slightly worried about rub... i was thinking milage would be slightly better with the 265's as well as my speedometer wont be off as much.... confused... help!
opinions? what size and what's your reason behind it?

the physical, or at least mathematical diference is slight, but you will find more offerings in 31", ferinstance, BFG's AT/KOs are available in 31-10.5-15, but not in 265-75-15... some tire shops will test mount one tire for ya if rubbing is a concern.

I thought thast 265/75 was only a 16" tire?

if you have 15s, keep them.... tires are way more readily available and cheaper than any 16s....

yeah... thanks guys... thats what i decided on, i just have to get some time to go to the tire shop now. I was actually upstate this weekend to the hunting grounds where i go hunting, so i know exactly what kind of terrain to expect, i want to bring my X up there this year. But first i want those 31's and new shocks.. for shocks, i posted a poll and i think im going to go with the Monroe Reflex shocks.... do you guy's think they are good enough for a mountanous terrain?

Tire Opinion

It all depends on what kind of driving you will be doing. If it's mainly pavement, based on my recent experience, I would go with the metric size instead of the 31's, reason being load range. Most 31's, like my BFG's usually have a higher load range capacity with a 3 ply sidewall instead of 2 plys (more readily avaliable in the metric size) and are much stiffer. This translates into a much harsher ride and more vibration at the wheel. After learning this, I wish I would have gone with a metric size with 2 ply sidewall (even thought they don't look as cool as the new AT KO's). The max air pressure on the 3 plys will be around 50, and the max on 2 ply around 35. According to a tire dealer buddy of mine, if you run less than 32-35 psi on the 3 ply, you run the risk of having the tire pop off the rim if you hit a harsh obstacle at speed. On the 2 plys, you can run the 26-28 recommended pressure with no problems. Lower pressure and 1 less ply in the sidewall makes for a much better ride. That is why the Rangers come with the metric size instead of the 31's which are basically the same size.

If I had to do it over again, metric!

Wanna buy some 31's with low mileage? : )
