i'm looking for a new vehicle and i came across this one, and wanted to know what you guys think about it. one thing that worried me was that it's listed as an XLT, but it's a 2 door 4.0 v6. XLT means the v8 doesn't it?
anyways i wanted to spend about 6k. this is a 98 with 93k miles on the clock.

also, can somebody run a carfax for the vin?

thanks for any info guys. i might be going to look at it tomorrow but i won't be buying anything until next week at the earliest.

XLT does not mean V8. It can, but it can also mean V6 SOHC and possibly V6 OHV (I think). "XLT" is more of a trim package than anything.

From that pic, it looks like the Sport (2 door). No V8 available in Sport. That engine pic looks like SOHC V6 to me. A good choice (but I'm biased) ;)

Not bad. I would check to see if the 00M12 recall has been done.. take your mechanic to look at the truck.. The truck is a 4.0 SOHC according to the VIN code.

Nice truck and definately a SOHC Sport.

Makes me wonder about how good they inspected the vehicle though. They didn't notice the tag on the rear saying Sport rather than XLT, what else did they not notice.

But ignore me I am a pessimist, and it does look nice.

Carfax is worthless don't waste your money, looks like a real nice x

well i went to the dealership today and the car was gone. but i will keep looking for a similar one. thanks for the advice...

Yeah I would just keep your eyes open for the best deal, there half a million of those things running around ;)

Keep looking those are nice units - by the way all 2dr's are 6cyl's but there are 2 versions. Do a search for opinions on whish to look for.

what do you mean 2 versions? 2 versions of the engine or 2 different model trims?

They offered the 4.0 SOHC & the 4.0 OHV. The OHV is the workhorse of the two motors.. The SOHC has been a little problematic with the cam tensioners but its very un-common for you to lose a motor with the SOHC. I know of only a few and one of them was caused probably by frequent hydro-locking. I would go for the SOHC if you want performance. Its has a horse power rating as high as the 302 V8.

i have a 01 xlt 4 door with a 4.0 sohc and i think its a great motor... powerfull enough for me in this truck
