I think my 4.0 OHV just did a bad thing. Making bad noises, MIL is on, mis fire in #2 and #5. Exhaust leaking from head. Kind of a knock/ click intermittently. Bad smell, like real rich. So I'm thinking some thing to do w/ heads again. I just did a top end job not too long ago. I'm going out to get a 5 year old car 'cause keeping this as a daily driver is NOT worth it. But I do wanna keep it. It's a great off road vehicle.
So my question is what to do? Keep the engine, pull it myself, start a rebuild, have my rebuild guy take it and re-do it? Get a new block, heads, etc and use all my old computer/wiring? Ditch the 4.0 ohv all together and get something else? If so, what? SOHC? V8 like in the new Fords? Something completely different? What will bolt up to my trans & transfer case? Are there adapters my drive train w/ different engines?
I'm looking for the most bang for the buck, still legal, reliable, build-able, and economical. All opinions are welcome. If you've got an idea, and reasons for it, please let me know!
