The ranger Diesel? Do you have those over there?

hi there 410 fortune. do you mean the ford ranger we have i think is a 2.5 duisel .would that fit on to the explorer auto box

wjhat dose your ranger have in it overthere

we do not have a diesel option for any year Explorer or Ranger in the US.

What do you mean by "get this 4x4 moving"?
What engine is in your explorer now?
What gear ratio's? what is your goal?

So basically members on this site are extreme 4x4 guys, and not a single one of them has a diesel powered Explorer, so I dont see the issue?

The Ford Ranger we have in the UK is a re-badged Mazda 4X4 pick-up truck built in Korea or Thailand or Malaysia or someplace. I doubt that ANY parts (let alone engines) are compatible with Explorers. There are all sorts of issues that go beyond simply bolting a diesel to the Ex auto transmission. What would the 'computers' make of it for a start? Might be better to find a suitable engine and transmission from a suitable donor vehicle (Range Rover, Discovery, Land Cruser, Patrol, etc) and drop the whole lot in. I still don't know how you'd by pass the electronic brains without making your own wiring harness to suit the new engine.
The bottom has recently fell out of the UK Explorer market - you should be able to pick up a '98 model in good working order for around £1500 - £2000. Probably a much cheaper option than going diesel... Keep the car or transplant the engine...

Oh sorry I failed to point out that people have been discussing a deisel engine conversion into an explorer for about 10 years now. If you do a search on this forum you can find many in depth threads on this topic on this forum.
I do not think anyone has done the conversion however, there is just too much to do to justify the result, too much work and $$$ required.

thanks for the info. i have a rannge rover 4.6 vouge 2000 model at present . i picked up the exp in mint condition with a blown engine .i paid £200 .00 for it .and i was thinking of useing it for work so wondered if a diesel convershion had been done on one. will look for a second hand engine the same as is in it a 4.l v6
