i own a 2000 mercury mountaineer v8 2wd and was planning on grabbing a exhuast pretty soon. I was thinking about getting a gibson exhaust.. one of the dual pipes.. (one muffler, two outlets).. i' havent heard anything or anybody about how good or bad the gibson exhuast was.. and was wondering how it was? or if it does sux? which exhuast is better... I want my tips to be at least four inch tips.. i also want not that much cabin noise.. i dont really mind it.. but i still wanna hear my music bumpin.. but i still want it really loud outside.. thanks any advice would help

First off, you will never get away with 4" tips and a quiet interior. Their just too damn loud (and sound like crap). My suggestion is to find a local shop that does custom exhaust and have them build you a cat back system. The price may be similar to the purchace price of the Gibson kit, but for that price you will get an exhaust system that is built to fit your vehicle (not a universal kit) and it is installed and fully welded.

thanks man... i really appreciate it..

Maybe a custom Magnaflow setup? Dual in single out muffler with a 2.5" or 2.75" tailpipe?

usually, id be with mrboyle on this one, but since you want gibson, i say get it! i wish i could get gibson, but they dont make the kit for my truck.

black magic has it on his SOHC sport, and 99explorer5.0 has gibson on his v8. theyre both happy with it.

yeh im pretty much still deciding... i think i might go with gibson..

Big four: Flowmaster, Borla, Magnaflow, Gibson. I have had experience mostly with the flows and also borla and they are both great mufflers.

what im really looking for.. is mostly horsepower.. of the four or a custom? who has the most horsepower?

If they're all truly open designs then they'll all be comparable with power. Of the 4, Magnaflow has the most open design so would probably give the best max hp gains.

I have to agree, but I am a flowmaster fan myself, increased numbers and they sound awesome.

A Gibson is nice when you want something quiet but will flow more exhaust than stock. That's what I plan to buy after I buy a house and am actually home in Mississippi more than I am in Michigan training. I've had the headers for my '97 Mounty for almost a month, and I think that I might get around to putting them on Monday.

Flowmaster and Magnaflow if you want it too be loud, mean and aggressive.

Gibson if you want it almost stock sounding, their very quiet if your into that thing....not aggressive enough for me though:p

Borla is like right in the middle, louder then Gibson, but quieter and less aggressive then Flowmasters and Magnaflows, IMO they tend to add a little buzziness as I've heard them on both V8 and sohc V6 Explorers.

Flowmaster and Magnaflow are the best for aggressiveness which I like:D Another good company to look into is CGS.....www.cgsmotorsports.com very mean sounding mufflers that have a really unique tone to them.

when you say the borlas add buziness do you mean it as a good or bad thing?

Im looking for louder than stock but not extremely loud. I like the way 5.0 mustangs sound, and I want my 5.0 to sound similar. Any suggestions?

Neither really, Borlas are just known for a slight buzziness/raspness even on Mustangs that sounds a little odd on a V8 for example. Still louder then Gibson though so.......

If you ever hear a really good and aggressive sounding 4.6 Mustang for example and they tell you they are using Borla, they are really using their X-R1 race muffler which is pretty damn loud when paired with an off-road x-pipe. Regular Borlas are still quiet and mellow on a Mustang.

not extremely loud, but like a 5.0 Stang:confused: Think you've been hearing stock 5.0's;) . To sound as close to a 5.0 Stang (without haveing a small h-pipe made) you'd have to have two Flowmaster 40 series mufflers with a minimum of 2.5" piping running from each muffler. A friend runs 3" piping from each one of his mufflers on his 5.0 Explorer and it's very loud and aggressive and just like a 5.0 Stang, but with hardly any resonance as using the two mufflers seriously cuts it down instead of one (ask RTstork)....it's definitley worth it, it'll be loud, but in a very nice way;) trust me, you hear your 5.0 Explorer with some 40's on and you'll fall in love.
