You wont be sorry with the Kenwood. My HU is a 979 and I just got the keg unit for MP3's which should arrive today.

I have the same model as you....P7600MP....have you found a way to stop the display form reversing colors every minute or two?

Pioneer!

AVH-P6400, 6.5'' LCD (in my XL).

If you have a 1.5 or 2 DIN slot, I would NEVER use an adapter plate, no matter what force from heaven or hell came about.

Too bad the best HU's are single DIN.

I don't have a preference for brands. I get what I like. I do have a set of rules though:

1-No flashing lights, screen savers, or any display that belongs on a spaceship
2-No fold down faces. Makes NO sense to me to have to wait for the face to retract before I can put in a CD
3-It's needs to have a real volume knob, or at least a knob that kinda functions like one.
4-Needs a simple layout. I don't want to go through 5 menus to adjust the bass.

All of these are getting harder to come by now days. :(

Hi everyone,
My name is Ron. It's my first time posting here and I'm thrilled to have found this board! Jason, I got a big kick out of your post.I have a feeling you're a little older than many of the posters here, like myself (lol).

I've been out of the aftermarket sound system game for years now. When I went back and started looking at h.u's again I was amazed that almost all of them had all of the above...I hate those cheesy looking graphics on h.u's nowadays..dolphins and little cars going down the road? Man! Not feeling the fold-down stuff either (like you aren't distracted enough in your car changing cd's, lol).

I went back and dusted off my old Pioneer cd player I had in a 91 Eclipse years ago. been siting in my garagefor almost a decade. The paint on the buttons are worn off and the display doesn't show you anything but the time, the station and/or the track you're listening to. Yeah baby!

ut it still works like I just bought it yesterday, which says a lot for Pioneer. Stillthough, Pioneer has jumped on the"high-techlok" bandwagon. But I saw a Kenwood deckin Car Toys a couple weeks ago (sorry I don't know the model number- I'll try to find it on-line) that's a new deck with all today's features, but designed with that classic "two dials" look. Man, what a thing of beauty!

anyway, glad to be here and I'm enjoying the threads. Look in the newbies forum for more information on what I drive.

Later,
Ron

I saw that same kenwood deck, reminded me of the home theater look. Two relatively large stainless looking knobs on either side of the front, I believe it was in my new crutchfield issue.

That's the one!

The faceplate does fold down, but hey...you can't have it all, I guess :D

I too must have these features...The knob being most important.

The reversing screen feature peeves me off the most of my current model.

29 isn't that old :)

I had to settle on a Clarion. It has what I want. The only thing I don't like is the blue display. Just doesn't match my dash lighting.

Denon used to make some nice head units. I had 2 of them in the past.
NAKAMICHI has some good head units that are simple & sound great.

Two dials with a display that is bright and easyto read. MP625, my next deck.

There's mine. I got it for $180 from Best Buy last June, even though its available on Ebay for around $120. I went with Pioneer because of the good things I'd heard about it from friends around here, and because I was looking for an HU that played MP3/WMA files, and one that was XM Ready. Kenwood made a nice one like it, but I liked the interface/controls on the Pioneer better. I've been 100% happy with it thus far.
