Coming up on 4 months since we ordered the 2011 Explorer. It was finally built on 24 Feb, but I was just told yesterday that they are on hold. Does anyone know what this hold is about? Or, is Ford just trying to get us to give up and buy a GM. After ordering in Nov, it is hard to see people who ordered MUCH later take delivery. VERY POOR system of setting up priorities. :(

Mine came off the assembly line on Feb. 24th and arrived at the dealership yesterday. Picking it up on Monday. It was ordered Dec. 20th.

Same with mine... Ordered dec. 20 rolled off the line feb. 22 and was delivered to my dealer in Ohio on mar. 3. I haven't heard of any new holds on explorers coming off the line recently.

Don't know what is going on, the customer service rep told me that they were on hold and no release date was known. Maybe the customer service rep does not know what they are taking about.

Maybe the dealership is jerking you around...

Not a good situation, either way, but I'd rather have my new Explorer held up at the factory, than at the dealership's service department. Better for Ford get it right, before shipping off to their customers.

I ordered 10 Dec. It was built 8th Mar. Held until 2 Mar, finally shipped 2nd made it to Kent washinton on the 8th. Kent is only 150 miles away and they are saying I will not get it before the 19th. Oh I was also told it would be delivered to my dealer in Chilliwack....I live on Vancouver island my dealer is in Victoria. Wtf!

Oh and to rub some salt in the wound Ford.ca sent me an email asking me how my new explorer I bought on the 28th o Feb has been and if I enjoy driving it. I was also told by customer service my warranty started on the 28th but they are not sure why and when I actually gt the vehicle have the dealer try to change that.

Not sure how they can start the warranty until you take possession. I'm sure that you must have to sign something once it is delivered to acknowledge that you now own it. I'm picking mine up tomorrow and the salesman said it would take at least an hour to go over the paperwork and the vehicle operation. Perhaps finalizing a lease may take longer than buying it outright. It's possible the delay between the 8th and 19th is because of getting transport arranged? I think I'd have a talk with your own dealer about this to make sure it goes to him.

I heard from a Chicago factory guy around the 22nd of Feb they were 40K orders on X's. And there was a stop order because of no 1/4 glass and other part shortages on the X.

Some higher ups suggested continuing to build and let their teams install the parts when they come in post production. However engineering said that couldn't be done without other adverse affects.

But again that was 3 weeks ago, as far as I know, the plant is running.

Hey all,

This is Seni with Ford Customer Service. I see that many of you have questions about the current hold. Please be assured, that we are doing what we can to get your vehicles out to you, as soon as we can. However, we occasionally discover issues during production, particularly during ramp-up. If you are experiencing delays in delivery, we may be holding your vehicle for inspection to ensure that you receive a vehicle of the highest quality. Thank you for your patience as this gets resolved. Please feel free to check in with your dealer as they may have updated information for you as production gets back on track.

Expected delivery date

I don't mind waiting if it means things will be fixed when it comes. What I find frustrating and unacceptable is that Ford has to know an expected time for the fix and subsequent delivery ETA. If I knew an approx. time for delivery I wouldn't mind waiting as much. Tell me the truth and not the pat answer "it will be shipping soon"

dave1946 has put it very well. In the message traffic and voice communication to Ford, the response is that it is on hold. You ask what the hold is about and they don't know. You ask about a new ETA and they don't know. Then you see they are building and shipping units build at a latter date. The lack of information is trully amazing. Just give us the truth. Oh, maybe the truth is "We don't know!". In which case I wonder about the future of Ford.

According to my dealer, there never was a hold. In fact, he just doesn't get why my explorer isn't here. He's "put in calls" and "hasn't heard back" a little too much for my liking.

If I wasn't so into the redesign and MFT I would have kissed my deposit goodbye and bought something else.
