Hey gang,
What is this part he's pulling out of evap core tube at >>> 28:32 mark of video ...? It sounds like he's caller it a "needer and tie" ??? ALSO, I've heard a major shortcut in replacing these evap cores in our Explorers is just removing / getting heater core hoses out of the way, then removing the screws around the outer housing (leaving everything else STILL in place) and then prying open and sliding core out of the two housing halves....anyone do it this way?

I can't tell what he is saying but it is called an orifice tube.

Thanks! STRANGE name though huh....it's like it's named after where it goes, inside the orifice / tube...
Still like to hear if anyone tried shortcut approach on removal / installation ....

No, never tried it. I remove the entire box.

/\ I'll report my outcome when I give it a whirl... probably mid next week some time. I'll make sure to have super glue and zip ties handy....just in case :)

I seem to remember the screws holding the box halves together being all over the damn place…trying to get at all those with the box installed may actually take longer than just removing the box

He's saying "metering..." I think he was going to say "metering screen" and realized that isn't the name (even though there is a screen) so he stopped.

I have split that case with the box installed and I can tell you first hand after cracking it, just remove the whole assembly, its sooo much easier and the insulation stays intact thats wrapped around the box.

I had removed the a/c box to remove and re-time the passenger side cylinder head and I had the whole thing removed in 30 minutes, vs the hour and 15 I spent trying to reach all the tiny bolts.

/\ Okay... thanks for the heads up amj441

It’s not as hard to remove as you think

There are two nuts that go from the interior / dash side of things

The orrofice tube can be accessed without touching the hvqc box… replacing the orrofice tube is part of any ac service on these trucks… I have also been known to just clean them
