I posted this earlier. but added pics this time. ---Could anyone tell me what a small cable toward the bottom of my rear passenger brake assembly is? It broke and I don't know what it does or where it goes, it is not my emergency cable. It seem to only be on the passenger side, the inside seems to spin. Thanks

looks like a hard line for your brakes?

Any warning lights(ABS, brake, etc).
Its not your speedo since you dont have a speedo cable(it runs off computer)

It seem to be a steel flex line sleeve with a insert in the middle.

No warning lights, brakes are normal

Parking brake cable?... Have someone step on the parking brake pedal, see if the cable moves...

it's got to be the parking brake cable. that's the only possible thing i can think of, especially if it's in the rear and everything else is working properly.

if it broke going to the passenger side, i'm wondering if it's still working on the driver side, you could always jack up the rear, set het parking brake adn try spinning the tires...

Thanks guys but it doesn't seem to be the parking brake it works fine. I think the parking brake enters from the top of thr brake assembly. This is a single jacketed line only on the passenger side entering on the bottom.

It looks like it is connected to your back break assembly. I assuming you have thoroughly checked the driver’s side to see it there is one there as well? It doesn't look like an emergency break cable to me. Are there any wires in side or does it look like it carried fluid? Also how is it connected to the brake?

looks like an adjustment rod

There is none on the drivers side. It doesn't have any fluid through it. It seem like a flex outer sleeve with a cable of some sort that either turns or pulls. The inside cable seems to be free. I got my annual inspection done today and it was nothing that had to do with that.

Here is a odd qustion for you but have you looked to see what this piece was connected too? Maybe that will help you figure this out.

I have looked with the car jacked up but can't seem to find where it came from. I looked around the diff., axle, brakes and anywhere else I could stretch my neck. I looked in my repair manual and it says nothing about it. I'll probably just tuck it up on top of my axle for now.

I'm starting to wonder if this is a cable for frame strength. You know how on screen doors, there are diagonal wires used to keep the door square and tight, wonder if Ford started using something like that. It'd seem ridiculous but it's just a thought I had.

Go by the Ford dealership or another shop, see if they can give you a free estimate to fix it, that way they'll tell you what it is and you can fix it cheaper!
