What is this in front of the main display?

Check out page 272 of your Owner's Manual. It is a camera focused on the driver (eyes) when using Bluecruise.

The camera facing the driver has been in the Explorers since at least 2020.

My 22 base doesn't have it or really any other features except for safety. I'm not sure about having an interior camera though watching you.

It's only there if you have Bluecruise. It's a safety feature to ensure you are watching the road with the feature engaged.
