I've been stuck on this decision for months. Put yourself in my position: Your 18 and about to go to college. You have a '95 explorer nearing 100,000 miles and a '67 mustang. The mustang is cool and all, but its not a good daily driver for obvious reasons (gas mileage, reliability, etc.), and if I wanna go fast, it would be more effecient to just buy a used LS1 or Cobra. And the explorer could be nearing several problems because of the high mileage. Some possible options are:
sell both and get either a used c5 vette or used '03 cobra
Fix any potential problems with the explorer, and try to make the mustang more reliable
Sell the explorer and put AOD and fuel injection and all that modern stuff in the mustang
Sell both and get a newer truck and a rusted out stang and do it all over again
sell them both, buy a used pinto, and save the $$$..haha...not!
What would you do?
Thanks for your opinions

One thing to consider: in 2001 I got a nada print out of the value of my mustang, it was $10,000. In late 2003, I got the same thing and it was $12,500. Basically rising about $1000 a year. Thats nice to know, but what good is that at all if I'm not selling it? On the other hand, if I keep it for 10 more years, then it should be worth $22,000, but by then I'll be a old fart anyway and it wont matter..haha...So many options

Either sell both and get a nice fast DD or swap a new drivetrain into the stang and make it my DD. I'd try to do the latter.

Here's what you should do!

Sell the Mustang. Fix the potencial problems w/ the Explorer. You still have at least a good 2 years until the sploder' stops running, and a year is a long time u know what im saying. Get a 6-inch lift w/ some MT Baja Claw Radials and wheel the hell out if!

By the way, Im new to the posts

100,000 isn't a lot for an X. I'm at 150,000 and running great with usual maint.

well.... sell both, and get a civic and a newer X ... mod the x as a toy and just drive the civic....

Let me know BEFORE you sell the Mustang

Did you say you are going too college? Do you or have you figured out what it will cost you too run the Cobra or LS1. Your 67 Mustang is a better bet. The insurance alone will kill you. Keep the Mustang.

Im at college with a 97 XLT with 98K on the clock.... I budget about $400 a month for gas/payments/scheduled maintenence. I would say keep the X if you got it paid off... The only BIG problem you may encounter is the tranny which is between 1500 -2000 dollars to fix which really isnt too bad. Good Luck

i got my tranny rebuilt for 1k and a 2 year warrenty, and he even gave me a little lesson on how it works and how to take it out and fix it

jared..... where did u get your tranny fixed.... that sounds like a great deal...... what was involved in the rebuild, was your entire tranny shot? Thanks

A 36 year old Mustang will never be a dependable DD unless you spend some serious money on it.

Being on a Explorer Forum I am obligated to say keep the Explorer.

18 and going to college? I say ride it out until you got yourself a steady job after college then get yourself a Viper. :)
