Yes this would be detrimental. Think of it as the front going slower at first, but going faster after speed has picked up. Transfer case and transmission would be taking all the stress.

You can have a little bit of a difference, usually .01 at the most. Some trucks have had up to a .05 differece without issue.

my 96 XL 4x4 5speed had open 3.55's im happy with them....
other 95 has 3.73 LSD
 






Just checked code: 46 which translates in 3.73 Open.

Limited Slip capacity-3200 ratio-3.73
i dont know anything about ratios so im assuming this is good? my truck is pretty peppy as far as off the line goes but hit 3rd gear and its weaker. is this because of the gear ratio?
 






4.10 LS, 2000 4-Door SOHC, XLT. I get between 17-20 on average, on stock tires for now.

my 01 sport has the 3.73 gears...but no limited slip
 












3.27 open baby!!!!!!! god i hate these gears. well maybe not the gears but the open diff sucks. i should just take my trac loc outta the stang since its just sittin in my garage.
