Im looking into a stealthbox for my explorer, i think im gonna get the JL stealthbox. i'm wondering if i can replace the existing 10w1 with another sub. I know some subs are deeper than others, and i know alot you you guys have the stealthboxes. I like the Alpine typeR speakers, i have 2 sets of 5x7's already. do yu think that the typeR 10 will fit, if not, any reccomendations?

Check the airspace specs on the JL. See if the other subs you mentioned can use that amount of space.

*poof* The answer materializes! ;)

Its not that simple. The JL box is not very deep.

I have a JL stealthbox stuffed with a 10w6, but in order to get it to fit, it needed a 1/2" spacer between the box and the sub.

Could someone post a link to these "stealthboxs" please? I wanna see!!!! :3

The 10w6 has 6.9" mounting depth, and the type R has 6", so it should fit without a spacer.

No, the 10w6 (not v2) is only 4.9" and the 10w1 (which comes in the stealthbox) is 4.4"

I have an Image Dyanamics ID10 V.3 in a JL Audio Vantage. Sounds great.

Does the Image Dyanamics ID10 V.3 sound better than the JL 10W1?

I have a JL Stealth box with the 10W1 subwoofer driven by an Alpine MRP-M350.

I've never heard the JL 10w1. My friend has the same sub as me and he says it sounds better than a 10w1 plus it has more power than the w1. The 10w1 only has 125w continuous whereas my ID has 250 continuous. My ID is powered by a JBL BP300.1. The sub just pounds. I love it.

So you guys think that the Image Dynamics sub will sound better then the JL 10w1? The more info the better!

TurboR, I would go with an ID10 V.3 or an IDQ. I think you will be much happier with the sound of one of the Image Dynamics subs. It will sound better than a 10w1.

expo5.0, get a JL Audio Vantage. You can put any sub in it you want. Or get the JL stealthbox. IMO MTX doesn't make great subs and for the money of the thunderform you could get much better.

lol i wouldnt say MTX makes bad subs...considering that JL said the mtx 9500 whooped anything it had lol

and Expo does alot of buisness with MTX brand things..so im assuming since he is still making money MTX cant be to bad =)

I put a Q-logic box in my back in. Sunk a 800 watt MTX sub in it and mounted an MTX amp behind the paneling right next to the box. Kept the space open and it sounds freaking awesome. It took some work to mount the amp (welded in some braces) but it works and it works well. I would say go MTX.
