What SUV would you have if you didn't have an explorer?

Don't laugh, but I almost bought a Rodeo before I bought my explorer. Fortunately, the Isuzu dealer was completely rude to my wife and I, so I went straight to the Ford dealer, where I should have gone in the first place, and bought an Explorer. I would have regreted it anyway because it doesn't have the space or the power of my Ford. It is a good thing I don't take crap from anybody or I would have had and Isuzu Slodeo!

But the wife want's the Mercedes-Benz ML55 AMG

5.5 litter V-8
342 HP
376 Torque
5 speed automatic
Full time 4 wheel drive
$65,000

1st pick would have to be a Jaguar S-Type.(one bad ass car)
but if i went w/ another suv, it'd have to be a Cadillac Escalade.

4Runner or Landcruiser, possibly two of the best made SUVs made today.

a military 5 ton :-) or a pimped out LINCOLN NAVIGATOR.

Just thought of another one

A LaForza. Just for the hell of it :).

peace

Mike

One no one has mentioned...a Russian Army UAZ CCMV. Stands for "Ulyanovsk <something> Zavod" which is the acronym for the manufacturing plant in Russia. CCMV is "Cross country military vehicle". Anyway, a few years back they were planning to export them to the USA, but I guess it never happenened.

It is one tough vehicle, some specs:
3600 lbs (it's small)
made of All-steel throughout. Comes with metal grilles over head and tail lamps, cow-catcher grille guard.
Has fewer moving parts than any other comparable vehicle.
I have a pic, it looks a lot like a cross between a 68-76 Ford Bronco (another great truck) and a J**p MJ or CJ.

The UAZ (pronounced "OO-AAHHS") even had an electrical hookup for a shoulder mount portable ROCKET LAUNCHER.

That's for all of you guys who would like to take out those Nissan XTerra drivers...

Gerald, I saw this blurb in this month's (Dec. 2000) Car & Driver about the new (yes, they're updating it) Geländewagen:
Preview de Paris
The 2000 Paris auto show was just days away as this issue went to bed, and we'll file a detailed report next month on all the new sheetmetal and gee-whiz technology unveiled at the Mondial de l'Automobile. In the meantime, however, a few preview photos of some of the new vehicles have found their way to us. --Tony Swan
...
Mercedes-Benz G-Class
Better known to a well-heeled cadre of U.S. buyers as the Geländewagen, the capable but expensive G-Class seemed doomed when Mercedes began building M-Class sport-utes in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Not so, because Paris saw the introduction of a thoroughly revised G-Wagen, now known as the G-Class, and it will use the new Mercedes 205 HP, 4.0 litre V-8 mega diesel engine. ALthough the exterior still has all the panache of a packing crate, the cabin has been fully furninshed and the instrument display is quite snappy, including the COMAND screen and other smooth techno-goodies from the S-Class sedans. The G-Wagen is built at the Steyr-Daimler-Puch plant in Graz, Austria, where Hooters has yet to open a bar and grill [sorry, Matt Adams].

For me if it was another Ford it would be a black Expedition, but thats way too big just for me, or maybe a sporttrac, thats a maybe. and anything else would be a car or a pickup. Preferably a 97 Mustang GT, 94 SHO, brand new Pontiac Grand-Am, or a 98 F250 extended cab V8, either black and tan or blue and tan. If it was other than a Ford it would be a pimped out 98 Blazer, chrome wheels, all the power mods, custom paint. Too many choices.....

4Runners are dangerous. They roll over like crazy, you can be going up a 1% grade hill and roll over :>

Hmm... It would have to be a 2002 Explorer!

I've been pretty disappointed with my Explorer...I'd definitely go for a Land Cruiser, its been my all time favorite. Although the taillights on the newer ones suck.

If not, Grand Cherokee is the only American SUV I would ever buy.

I Black Expedition.....maybe an eddie bauer but definitley black :)

I'd take a Nissan Pathfinder, cause it has 240 HP. 0-60 in 8.4 seconds.
Or a 4Runner. Dangerous for rolling over but hey it still looks nice.
Not a Jeep Wrangler, its a tin can, seats are high up so if you get broadsided your ribs are gone.
The new Chevy Avalanche look pretty cool I think one of those ,or the cherokee.

umm. id have to say that the only positive part of my Ford experience has to be the sales people. not the service writers. not the quality control people. not the regional reps. the sales people. they were so nice and straight forward when helping me buy my car, they are even more helpful in getting rid of it!

I wasn't impressed with the Ford salesman at all. I know my service rep personally and he is literally the best in the business. He can only do so much with Ford techs though.

Hey is Ford still gonna come out with a baby Navigator?
I want one of those.
