I am thinking of getting a body lift for my 91' 4WD Ex. I will be doing some minor off roading every now and then but nothing serious. I want to get a body lift because I don't think the amount of time that I actually get out there in the mud constitutes a suspension lift. I also only want to get the BL for a little more clearance and so I can fit some larger tires on my Ex.

Is it worth my time to to get a 2 inch body lift? I am hoping to get at least 31's on there. What would be the best size to get. I don't mind doing some minor trimming, but nothing too serious. I have no idea what people have been able to fit on theirs.

Please let me know, any help is appreciated!

No body lift or suspension lift and you can fit 33x9.50s on the stock rims without little to no rubbing. 3" BL and probably a 33x11.50 is as wide as you could go iirc.. I prefered the look of my truck better when I had my 33x9.50 BFG MTs with no lift rather than how it is now, 33x12.50 Thornbirds (They're leaving soon enuff, got'em for $100 a corner, with rims) on a 15x10 rim with as much back spacing as possible. Although I do have a 3" BL and 1.5" suspension lift, I had to cut my front fenders as much as I could to not rub. Its a decent look still, but I just prefer fenders full of meat rather than a 16" gap between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender. /shrug

If all you want is 31s you can fit those stock. All trucks are different and some have said they rub and some have said they don't. If you go with a 2" BL you won't have to trim anything with 31s.

Good luck.

Hah! That's kinda strange. I was also trying to find some other pics earlier tonight when I came accross "STOMPER". I was going to contact you a little later tonight and now here you are. Any way, after watching that vid. you had on there I got some new ideas. I was hoping maybe you can describe everything you did with your Ex. I am not looking for anything big or dramatic but "STOMPER" looks great!! That is exactly what I want. A little bit of a lift for some more clearance and some aggressive 31's.

I am a rather average mechanic, but from the looks of your Ex. it looked like most of the lift modifications were pretty simple. Do you think that I can make some custom shackles and install coil springs? Where did you get your kit and what is the avg. price range? Are there any other modifications you made that I did not pick up on (pertaining to your suspension and lift?)

Thanks so much for your input.

whell, the springs i got from summit for 120.00, the shackles i made becose i can, but you can get them for the x's , look up war shackles in search, think there like 50.00 or so ? then there are the moog camber shims, my truck needed the 2.75 ones for the 2in. lift, they run like 30.00, then take it to a shop for a aliment was like 60.00.

as far as puting the stuff on, took me like 3hr. to put it all on, it was ez to do i would say, theres a right up on here some ware on how to do it, just do some searching on here, all the info you need is here..

it would cost less to just do a body lift 100.00 or so, but with the stock sagging springs i would go right for the 3in. if you go that way. then you could go the 31's ez, and not look so stuffed.

then later, when the 31's start to look small like mine look to me, you can get the 2in spring lift and put on 33's with a total of 5in. of lift (like im geting reddy to do) !

Ok so I still have some questions. Are those prices for both sides or each? What are moog camber shims? And then I feel very stupid to ask but, what is the allignment for and can any place do that? And then last you said you were going to get a spring lift. So I am assuming that for the rear you only extended the shackles and in the front you put in new extened coils and shocks. Are those the only things you did?

Thanks,
Josh

thats both sides.

the shims are for the allignment, if you lift the front up with new springs it makes the front tires look like this ( V ) they come in at the bottom , the shop fix this and make them come back to ( l l ) straight up and down .they should have the camber shims there, sears or some ware like that should be able to do it for you.

And then last you said you were going to get a spring lift.

no i have a spring lift , and im geting a body lift. i was saying that if you did the body lift now, you could do the spring lift later, and have a total of 5in. of lift. thats what im getting ready to do.

So you did coils and shocks in the front and a 3" spring lift and shackle extension in the back. What were the coil and shock lengths/sizes for the front?(3"?) By how much did you extend your shackles? Oh, and did you have to get extended shocks for the rear? And lastly did you have to do any electrical wire, brake line, or drive-shaft extensions? I really appreciate your help because I would like to tackle this myself if I can get enough advice and if I am sure this is something that's not gonna cost a fortune or take weeks. Thanks again, you have been a great help.

PS: What is that red arm that your shock connects to on the front?

you almost got it, its a 2in. lift :D

there is a right up on the lingth of the shackles on here someware, you will need to do a search for it. and on a 2in. lift stock shocks will work fine.

no.

its the stock arm that all x's have, i just painted mine...
