I have a 2000 Explorer w/ 4.0 SOHC 4 x 4 w/ 90k mi. Check engine light was on and it would not pass smog check. I took it to a mechanic to check light. This is his report: Performed diagnosis on malfunction light on found COE PO306 misfire #6 cylinder. Checked cyl cotribution found #2 & #3 cyl also show misfire but intermittent. swap #6 plug and wire to #5 misfire did not follow. replaced coil with test coil no change. need to run compression test and fuel test.
Performed fuel pressure test KOEO 65 psi OK. Performed cranking compression test all cyl within 155-160 psi. performed running compression test #6 cyl @ 55 psi #5 cyl @ 90 psi. Suspect bad valves, recommend remove cylinder heads and inspect. Note: Requires R & R engine.
At this point I took the vehicle home as they wanted $3200 to repair. Has anyone had this problem? How much should a valve job cost. Should I have Timeing Chain worked on at the same time.
