My friend was hooking up my system and kind of left me hanging. I just need getting the new cd deck to connect to the stock harness. I went to walmart and bought a connect for my year an model but it gave me 2 parts when only one of them connects. The gray one. The black one has nothing to plug into. I called best buy an they told me there is another harness some where in the dash but i searched all over and could not find it anywhere. so i need some serious help plzzzzzzz.

Ok I bought the different connector. Now I need help connecting the wires from the deck to the new connector. What do I match or whatever? Do I match the colors and twist them together with electrical tape or what? Sorry I have no experience with this at all.

There should be a diagram on the connector, and a diagram on the deck harness. Just a matter of matching them up, and hooking the remote amp wire as well (as was in the post), so your factory radio amp turns on as well, or you will have no sound.

I know some don't like then, but I've always used these connectors, and have never had a problem. Wires you're joining in each side, push metal clip through with a pair of pliers, then snap it closed, tape it over just for giggles.

Tap connector:

Any decent store from WalMart to Home Depot will carry them.

Decent store & Wal-Mart are an oxymoron :p:

Good point, Dan... :D

Actually, if you order them from McMaster Carr, you can get a bunch of them for what you pay for 5 at a chain store...

i cant find any diagram lol so i started matching the colors together and then the ones with the black stripes. im just kinda confused on what one attach the remote wire to and the illuminator or something. BTW i seee your from GR lol i lived in Wyoming my whole life. I just moved out here in pa like 6 months ago.

No need to worry about the illuminator wire, I never hooked them up.

ricky explained the amp turn on better than I did...

I've been in West Mi since '97, in Kentwood, Wyoming, Byron Center, and now Grandville.

Ok. So I connected all the wires from the cd deck to the connector. And plugged it in. I just matched the colors together. I got power and everything lights up but no sound and I can't figure out why.

The remote amp turn on is not connected. Click the link in the post above your last one.

I know im just trying to get sound into my speakers first before i hook up the amp and sub. I tried playing a cd and the radio but no sound was coming in.

Not talking about the amp and sub. The 97 uses a factory external amp for the factory radio. If the amp isn't hooked up, there will be no sound from the speakers. That's what the blue wire does.

Ohhhh ok. So I hook the amp I bought up to it or the factory one?

You will have a remote turn on wire from the new deck. That needs to be hooked to the remote turn on for the factory harness. That turns on your factory amp to make your speakers run. (Some have used a power antenna lead for that as well)

You will hook up your aftermarket amp to the remote turn on as well when you install it to run your sub.

Don't know if this helps...

oOmg dude your awesome. now I have sound. ok now I need to connect the amp an sub lol

 :)

The amp/sub- That's the easy part! :D

When I hook the amp I bought up do I attach it with the bluewhite wire coming from the connector or the blue wire coming from the cd deck. Or do I hook all 3?

Just hook it to the remote on wire from the deck...

Run that wire on the opposite side of the truck as the power wire from the battery though.

Maybe my sub thread would help... CLICK
