I have used the search function and also have spent many hours trying to find out what the model # my transfer case is. I have a 06 xlt 4x4 V6 it has the buttons that say "Auto 4x4" "High 4x4" and "Low 4x4" I tried what one thread suggested and looked on the case itself but the only thing I could find was a paper label that had 62AF?? Thanks in advance :)

im curious what trans the first gens had??

bks691, you can also search google if nothing turns up on the forum.
According to a google search you have a 5R55S T-case.

1993fordexploere, it is considered bad etiquette to ask questions not related to the thread topic. You can start can start a thread pertaining to your vehicle or better yet...search first.

You are right about that # being the transmission model, sorry for the bad info.
Pics online show the T-case but with the model # of the tranny.

There should be an aluminum tag somewhere on the T-case, might be near the rear output, that would either have the model # or at least numbers to decipher what case you have.
You could also try your local parts dept. at the dealer and they can look it up.

Thanks all for replying. I think I'll look for the tags again or try the ford dealer to see if they know.

not sure which but it should be a borgwarner 4410 or 4411 unless its changed from '04.
One of them is the AWD version which is a viscous clutch which is automatic while the other has a module and motor to shift in and out of 4wd.

It is probably the 4411 since he said he has the buttons one the dash for 4auto, 4hi and 4low. the 4410 doesnt have any.

There are actually three possible transfer cases (though I don't know the model numbers of any of them): A on-speed Torque On Demand case, a two-speed Torque On Demand case, and there was allegedly an All Wheel Drive case, though the service manual doesn't have any of the diagrams on it for '06, so I think it may be a bit off on that one.

And yes, a 5R55S is a transmission model number, though they also offered a 6R60 transmission that year as well (maybe behind the V8?).

did you ever figure this out? I am having the same issue, where I am trying to find the correct bearing & seal kit for my 07 XLT ford explorer, but cant figure out what my transfer case is.

V6

V8

Seems the overhall kits for the BW4412 are the same, except 5 or 6 speed transmission.
