What type of mods need to be done to fit 33" tires on stock

suspension? Is this even possible? I'm guessing this is a stupid question.

33's with the stock 93 suspension = MAJOR amounts of fender trimming.........even into the rockers.

Now you can help your cause quite a bit by:

adding coil spacers and getting an alignment.
Running warrior shackles in the rear

This is a good way to get 1.5-2" of lift from the stock suspension.

33's are not going to fit with just this suspension adjustment.

aftermarket rims with more backspacing will be needed to clear the width.

Basically it takes 6" of suspension lift to clear 33's with minimul rubbing on a 1st Gen Ex.

Now there are things that can help you mount larger tires without needing to cut:
Body lift (YUK)
Fiberglass fenders

why would you want 33's on a stock height truck anyways?
 






Jamie, I think you mean fender cutting and not "fender trimming" :)

Cosmos, just lift the hell out of it. You live in Atlanta so I don't think you will need to worry about rolling it on the rocks. If I were you I would just get superlift, 4wheel parts, local shop, someone on the phone and get a 5.5 lift kit and forget trimming/cutting all together ;) Look around here first for a used lift first. You will be able to score a used lift much cheaper.
 






Well I think to fit 33's all you need is add a leaf and 2" lift spring for rear and then get some 2" lift coils and f150 spacers for front.

I fit 32's with only 2" lift coils and AAL in rear. No trimming at all.
 






not sure what type of wheeling you do, but in my book, the bigger tire you can get and keep a lower center of gravity, the better... there are some exceptions to this, but it is a general rule of thumb....
 






Bolt the tires on, then you will see where the truck needs to be cut, simple.

Also 33" tires vary in size from manu. to manu.

Jim is right but if you are into mud and stuff like that and will mostly be cruising around the city just buy enough lift to clear the tires without cutting into the nice body.

It's crazy but they really do. I measured my 35's and of course they are worn down but they measure like 33" and my buddy's 35's measure like 34.85".

Now he has a 6" Skyjacker lift w/f150 spacers and he has had to do "0" cutting to his fenders. We will add a 1" BL this weekend to ensure that he has no problems when wheeling.

I have a 91 with 33's.They will fit with minimal rubbing with a 3' BL.There is nothing wrong with a BL.And the tires will clear fine.Do a 2' lift coil and shackles as well and you are laughing.

Okay okay so I dont like Body lifts.

You are right they are great for clearing larger tires!
But they are also great for raising the center of gravity.

So it all depends on what the trucks purpose is. If it is to look cool with big ol tires, then body lift it, but if you are often in serisouly off camber situations, a body lift can only hurt.

So I did mention the BL as an easy way to clear tires, but I put a (yuk) next to it to show IMO they have no place on trail trucks.
 






Point well taken.I have had my truck on 2 wheels a few times.But a lift of any sort lifts the center of gravity.A lot of people don't like BL's.

But less of a CG killer than a suspension lift.

Unless you plan to cut the be-jeezus out of it, you will have to lift. A body lift is a great alternative if you don't feel like forking out the money for a susp lift.
 






YOu have? ON the street? hahaha I have had it on two wheels a couple times as well!! less now then when the BII was stock though....now if its on 2 wheels it better be on a trail!

My BII was really tippy when I got it, stock with 150K miles on it. The springs and shocks were toast as were all the suspension bushing, man it wanted to roll over when it was parked!

Now even with the 6" suspension it is WAY less tippy then in stock form. The flexy suspension is really good at keeping tires on the ground.

BUT the suspension lift can increase the articulation and downtravel, this keeps the tires on the ground longer. So although the suspension lift and body lift both raise the center of gravity, the suspension lift also provides increased articulation. the BL only raises the body.

If you want to clear big tires and are worried about center of gravity the BL is the last thing to do! Cut the fenders!!!
 






Most of the times I have had it on two wheel has been doing donuts in the dirt.You catch an edge in a rut you just made, and HOLY S#!%! You have to turn the wheel straight and hammer it! Not smart in a really high truck famous for rolling!
 






I would like to change my answer.

No mods.

Just bolt them up and go!!! the more you drive it the more the tires will "self clearance" themselves.

I disagree...

when you do a suspension you lift the ENTIRE vehicle save the axles and the springs. That means the engine, the frame, the tranny, xfer case, they all go up. When I did my TT/shackles/AAL it hurt my handling performance more than when I later added the BL and the larger tires. The body in the grand scheme of things is light compared to the iron block, frame, heavy ass tranny etc.

Why did I do a body lift? B/c it was cheap, and the 2nd gen suspension lifts suck.
 






uhh....I don't think he ment the body lift raised the center of gravity because it is heavy.And a TT will hurt your handling because it makes your suspension super stiff.Atleast it did on my old nissan.And please don't tell anyone I owned a Nissan.We have all done things we are not proud of.A proper suspension lift, atleast in my case(New longer springs) and new shocks will make your vehicle handle better, especially if you still had factory stuff.

Bigpolarbob, did you fit those 33's with the stock wheel or aftermarket? If you fit 33's with the stock wheels, what width tire did you go? I.E. 10.50,11.50,12.50?
