I am going to be doing my own oil changes, Just wondering what type of oil you guys recommend. I have a 01 Explorer Sport with the 4.0 SOHC, I am located in california bay area to be excat. Temperatures here arent very extreme, High 80s to low 90s in middle of summer, High 30s in colder winter. Any suggestions would be great.

I would recommend using full synthetic oil.

Good luck ....

agreed.

Check out the product review section. Some of us have posted out opinions there.

Right now still Motorcraft, but next change Mobil One Synthetic.

Not this again.....

Search please. This has been discussed a thousand times.

Yes it has. I use standard mobil 10W40.

Definitely one of the more discussed topics for sure. Go full synthetic. Mobil1 if you want to keep costs down (even Walmart carries Mobil1), Amsoil if you want to spend more and take advantage of extended drain intervals. They also have great filters. Price is more manageable if you get a Preferred Customer membership.

If I feel rich, I like to use Royal Purple 5W-20 with a Mobil 1 filter. If I don't have much cash to spare (like now), I use Motorcraft 5W-20 with a Motorcraft filter.

full synthetic....I got it done at Canadian Tire and I think they used Quakerstate...5w30.

Crappy Tire actually carries Amsoil ASL 5/30. Not sure if they'll provide it in their oil changes, but you never know. $9.99/litre at retail so not cheapest option.
