Right now I have 5% in the back and 35% in the front (Thats the darkest the place would do) and I don't like it, I want it darker in the front, but not as dark as in the back because it's hard to see out of at night. Can you post pics and the % you have and say if you like it or not and stuff... thanks

I have 20% on the front to match the rear windows. Not too dark at nite, so between what little I can see and the reverse sensors, I can manage ;)

That looks good, is it really that dark or do you just have it at a certain angle so it looks that dark?

Its pretty much what your rear windows are. In the light, looking with your eyes and not a camera you can see in. I think its just the camera and the way the light is hitting it that it looks like I've painted my windows black. But it matches the rear perfectly. Let me see I have have any at a different angle.

Here's one from the inside. The window is down some to get some contrast.

How dark your tint can be depends on what is legal in your state. For example, here is what is legal in the state of Connecticut

Any vehicle with an after market tinted window must have a tint compliance sticker affixed to it by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Stickers may be affixed to vehicle windows which, when tested, have an allowable light transmittance of no less than 35 percent plus or minus three percent.

Rear Window: If the vehicle is equipped with left and right-hand side rear view mirrors, the tinting standard does not apply to the rear most window (back window).

MPV: If the manufacturer's certification label in the driver’s door jamb identifies the vehicle as an MPV, the windows to the rear of the operator may be tinted as dark as desired provided the vehicle is equipped with left and right side rear view mirrors. (This is where my Explorer would be categorized)

Trucks, motor buses, trailers, motor homes and livery vehicles: The windows to the rear of the operator may be tinted as dark as desired provided the vehicle is equipped with left and right side rear view mirrors.

Medical Exemption: If a medical condition exists which requires tint between 32 percent and not less than 20 percent, a medical exemption form must be completed.

Therefore, in my state, I can have any windows to the rear of me as dark as I want, but the driver and passenger doors and the windshield can't be more than 35 percent

Laddy, I would find out from your DMV what is the most you can have your Explorer tinted by your state's laws

Yup mine are pitch black as well all the way around, I'll try to get a pic up later, can't see much at night but the appearnce during the day makes it all worth it, like you laddy I had the 35% in the front before too, but with the new tint it improved a 100 fold ;)

Laws? When it comes to tinting, I just don't follow the laws. A simple roll-down of the window (if needed) while passing a cop does it. Go as dark as you want, because chances are, 35% is already exceeding the law (at least here anyways, gooo California).

The law here is 35% but I want it darker, I'm leaning towards 15% right now, 5% would look best but I really dont want it that dark in the front because its hard to see at night

Take a look at this link. http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html It has the legal rates listed in an easy to read chart by state. In my personal experience with tint, I've got 20% on the front two doors and hatch glass and 5% on the back doors and side cargo areas. Much darker than 20% on the front and it's hell to see out of. Trust me, I've had 2 vehicles done with 5% before I wisened up.

Excellent link Julian, thanks for posting it. So what is the stock tint on explorers, like 20 percent for the back and sides? Or is it the 35%.
Me so confuzzled.
It'd be nice just to match all the way around.

Can't a window tinting place measure the existing factory tint and match it? Just wondering.

The stock is 20%. The guy who did mine took a quick look at it and new what it was. Took him ~45 mins and it was done. Matches perfectly.

Get 5% all around. I have it and I love it...No one can really see in your car day or night.

Ok, then I definitely want it darker than 20%, I'll probably do 15

I think I'll go with 15 as well, maybe 10 IDK. It isn't really a big deal about being able to see out, b/c I ALWAYS have my windows down when driving.
