What would you do?

I'm confused. Why did you need service at 3000 mi? Why did you schedule it again at 5000 mi? Because of a post card? Oil changes are 10k or when the monitor indicates. You brought this on yourself by scheduling and paying for unnecessary maintenance. Stop wasting money....and keep track of your own service.

Agreed, and you make too big of a deal over the oil. Get them to replace the full-syn and move on.

That was my question! They said they do not follow Fords recommendation, they change the oil at 5k miles...PERIOD. So basically their claim is I did not tell them NOT to change the oil so they did. I want them to credit my bill for the oil change I didn't need and put back the synthetic I had in the first place.... again which never should have been changed.

did the dealer really put in synthetic oil or did they put in 5W20? can we tell the difference? smell? appearance? can we take some oil out and have it tested to determine if the oil is dyno or synthetic? thats why I do my own oil changes, I know what I am putting in my engine. Even quick lube places are not on my radar screen.

I bet the only thing done on that list was to change the oil. Did you check to see if the tires were rotated? Does it look like they lubricated anything? Might have the original cabin filter too.
Their inspection is most likely a quick glance for a leak.
Inspect everything, and call the service manager with anything missed, and set up a time to have your oil changed again at no charge.
Its sad, but you will have to reinspect their inspection if you don't want anything missed.
Nobody will treat your Explorer like it's their own, because it isn't :)

He's right. I was getting my spark plugs changed at the dealer with my 95 back 2 years ago. I marked the sparkplugs to make sure they would change it all. They only replaced 3 of 6 and I was pissed. Stopped going to that dealership. Now whenever I get a service, I'm marking everything from oil filter to cabin filter to make sure they replaced it.

I like what Sean99 said... but if your are like me... I'm not sure I would be able to tell what was or wasn't done.

I had some issues with a power steering repair on my 10 year old camaro. I took it to a 2nd GM dealer had asked them to do a spot check on the colors of the fluids for me. (which they did for free) They discovered that the repair hadn't been done correctly and I was able to quickly escallate the issue with the owner of the dealership that did not do the repair correctly. The owner actually paid for the other dealer to correct the issue in my case.

If you explain that you were just at a Ford dealer and you think that the service was not actually completed as requested, they may be willing to help you double check it. After all, if they can help show you how it wasn't done, they might have a new customer.

It worked for me anyway.

Thanks for your thoughts guys, I did learn a lesson here. Like I said the Toyota guys would advise to me what I needed based on the last thing done and I could make my decision. Looks like I have to be more vigilant with these guys if I stay there which at this point I doubt.

Agreed, a lot of wasted money, oil, time for unnecessary maintenance. Post cards are just more junk mail intended for recycle bin.
