i have a 94 x with 120,000 miles. i dont know the history. it hesitates from park to reverse on cold mornings. ive searched and some people say dont change the fluid and filter or (flush) on a high mileage tranny. other people have done it with no probs. other than the hesitation it seems to work fine. should i change the fluid and flush it, or just change the fluid and filter and not flush it. or neither?

change fluid...... it wont hurt and may help it..... not changing is stupid!....anyways, its probably normal, as the p to r is very rough on any tranny, being cold doesnt help the problem anyways.....

i would also agree and say change it. Now if the fluid is really nasty and black and theres lots of sludge in the pan, thoroughly clean the pan and the magnet, change fluid and filter and refil trans, now since ATF is acts like a detergent and cleans things, you may end up with tranny probs in a week or 2, but not to worry this is cuased by the new fluid cleaning the inside of your tranny and the now dislogded dirt and crud clogging the filter. Drop the pan and change the filter and fluid again and you should have no adverse affects.

I had always heard the myth about once you have lots of miles on a trans to leave it alone, but i am currently taking Automatics trannies and transaxles in school and after getting into them i now understand why its not true. My prof also was a vast aount of knowledge and a great deal of experience in the feild and have yet to see him lead us in the wrong direction

hope that helps
Jon

Honestly, i had the same problem on my old '93. The EXACT same problem. I have a steep driveway and backing out for school in the morning sucked. Sometimes it would actually die on me. But as the same for you it never was worse than that.

Just give it gas and it's fine. I don't know how to fix it, and if changing your fluids will help then go for it. I don't have that Ex anymore so best of luck to you.
