Doug Studdard of BamaChips ( http://www.bamachips.com/ ) and I are going to do some dyno testing and tuning of my ’99 SOHC in the near future.

We will be testing various computer tunes, air intakes, TB spacers and more.

Is there anything that you would like to see tested? It will have to be a relatively simple bolt on ( no headers or internal components ) due to time constraints.

Might be a dumb suggestion, but see how much backpressure has effect on the motor. Maybe try disconnecting the exhaust after the cats?

How bout a K&N (or equiv) vs a stock paper element?

Please in your testing enclude real time IAT and ambiant temps, also A/F ratios with the various mods and tunes.
No bolt ons required.

I second the backpressure test.

Would'nt that just be testing the muffler? before the cats might be interesting

I think both ways would be interesting.

No, that would be testing it with pressure(with the muffler) and with no pressure(just cats). Testing the muffler would involve a stock one and whatever Al is running.

And one other minor thing, please post the graphs (as you demanded of me and I complied of course)
As they are generated on the Dynojet computer, in real time.

Todd
Are you saying there is no backpressure with cats?

Not enough to make it worth dropping the cats to find out with. I'm just curious to see the loss for those who put duals on v. a single pipe. Sorry I suggested it, I guess I was wrong in your ultimate wisdom.

And to add, how many guys on here drop their cats for more performance?

No wisdom needed, get dynoed, than install an offroad Y-pipe eliminating the two front cats, than get dynoed again with just that mod.
Than you will become wise to the wisdom I'm telling you about, untill you do so, live with the back pressure, your cats are killing your H.P. Numbers

More than you realise :D

..............and helping the environment at the same time. Prioritize for yourself.

I agree Robb, we also need to save the owls :D

High performance ignition

I'd like to see a couple different MAF/MASs (stock injectors of course) and their effect on air/fuel mixture, as well as power, to end all debates and questions on them.

Maybe power comparison between drop-in K&N vs the uber-expensive FIPK or other filter chargers of that style. ( I don't know of any other brands.)

Maybe the EE larger throttle body if that wouldn't take too long to swap?

What about varying the octane level? Will higher octane gas give you more power? How much? Including the Octane additives......
Hope you plan on spending a week there Aldive! But MANY thanks for even making the offer.
Karl
